Hello,

I was curious to know - Has anybody applied for Political Aslyum in USA based on the current turmoil in Nepal? If Yes then what are the process & chances?

Can students apply for political asylum too? I see life in Nepal is Never going to be normal.I don't want to jeopadize my life & my future.

Can someone who has had experience In Political Aslyum help answer my question. Are there any good Nepalese Immigration Lawyers? Where can I find them or if anyone could give me their website or names with phone Numbers.

Thank you.

The chance of actually getting approved for political assylum is relatively small compared to other avenues. Furthermore, if you have not been specifically made target, I do not think it works. I know of a few people for whome it worked, and also know of a few people, who in my opinion had very similar cases, whose applications were denied. They were then detained and deportation processes started against them.

All in all, I would not recommend applying for assylum at least not until you have a specific threat againt you. You also need to file for assylum within one year after your US entry unless there are extraordinary circumstances. I dont know what that means, as its not defined.

Hope that helps. I am sure other experts will chime in.

As matter of fact non of the real tortured and threaten by Moist ( at present situation) are granted as an asylee. Anyone can file for political asylum if you can make your own affidavit as other Nepalese are doing. You have to file within a year but if you have an special circumtances which makes you to stay here in USA, your application will be accepted and review it. Good luck and I encourage you to go for it.

Hah, you sure can try it, but expect a nice boot in your booty by an INS representative wearing big boots.

No problem with political asylum, but it ain't as bad as we make it to be. Try living in Afghanistan during the Taliban days. Those are the people that get asylum.
