Bhutan.....Wat i know about this nation is :
1)The capital of Bhutan is Thimpu
2)They have a King(Monarchy)
3)Refugee
Well i didn't know they had websites, well they do ofcourse, and accidently a few moments ago i happened to browse one of their sites(www.kuenselonline.com),whic to me seemed like the Bhutanese version of Sajha. So yeah,i clicked on "From the readers section",well what do i see?Nepal lai diss....on what issue....ofcourse refugee, and they claim they ain't their people.
Now talkin about me...me and the refugee issue can be compared to a chimp and computer hardware.Only thing i know(ofcourse it maybe wrong.Media....k garnu?)is they were wrongly treated and kicked out from Bhutan and the sole reason being they were of Nepali origin.
So the point of me writing this is Sajha ko buddhiman mahanubhav haru log on to that site and fight fire with fire.Let them hear our side of the story and we theirs and i am pretty sure we are right. So u know wat to do,please do that.
P.S.Bhutanese haru aafulai atti janne bhani thanda raicha, and i don't know wether that site is goverment run, they see no defect in their governing body.

I too came across www.kuenselonline.com site when searching some information on Bhutan. While I did not notice any "Nepal Bashing", a thought definitely hit me regarding the refugee issue and if I should start thread regarding that. Well, I did not have much time then and I completely forgot about it after that.

I would love to hear from everyone how they feel about this issue. Like "devil's advocate" mentioned, my understanding is also that the people of Nepali origin were unfairly kicked out of the country, even some of them having lived there for generations. I really don't know the Bhutenese side of the story or why this crisis has not been solved for so long.

In the late 80s, the Bhutanese government, under the pretense of cultural preservation, passed a series of decrees which were blatantly discriminatory against Bhutanese of Nepali origin. This was part of a well orchestrated plan by the racist Bhutanese government to force the Nepali-speaking Bhutanese to flee the country. The refugees were tortured, raped, forcibly evicted from their homes. The refugee crisis has reached an impasse, which is precisely what the Bhutanese government want. They do not want the refugees, or the so called ‘anti-nationals’, to return to Bhutan. Meanwhile, these innocent people continue to live in deplorable conditions, and at the mercy of ‘ration-giving’ agencies such as UNHCR. The dehumanization continues…

dazzling ko keti Posted on 15-Jan-04 01:01 PM

Wake up ppl---this has been going on for quite sometime now!!! Infact, sometime in the early 1990s the Bhutanese govt actually kicked out ALL nepalese from Bhutan. Stripped them of their jobs AND left them lietrally homeless. I still remember how, nepalese from Bhutan had to set up refugee camps on the way from Kakkarvitta to Kathmandu. It was PATHETIC to say the least and the more pathetic part is: the Nepalese govt chose to close their eyes TOTALLY to this issue and DID not attempt to have any bi-lateral talks with the Bhutanese govt.

So instead of trying to say you nepalis from Darjeeling, you nepalese from Bhutan---do something about it. Urge your govt to stand up for genuine causes, before the identity of "nepalese in general" and our own brothers are jeopardized.

I am pretty surprised by the number of responses.
Researching, analyzing and concluding on Pushkar's world tour seems to get more response than a burning national issue.Wat does that prove? We good at bitchin.
Still waiting for responses.

I read what Bhutanese have to say about Nepalis. It's interesting to realize that amidst all the supposed animosity I was able to discover that our Bhutanese counterparts are as much bewildered as we are. We mustn't forget that widespread media mechanisms have political leanings, whether they claim to or not. The ousting of thousands of ethnic Nepalis from Bhutan was a result of governmental intervention. The Bhutanese ministers feared that if their population wasn’t curtailed, then the ethnic Nepalese would outnumber the ethnic Bhotias in a matter of decades. As such, property rights and other civil liberties afforded to the citizens of a nation would be jeopardized and the Bhotias would become a minority in their ancestral land. The only shortcoming in the refugees that I was able to observe was that they are victims of a simple sin of their forefathers—that of belonging to an ethnic group. Nonetheless, we shouldn’t forget that the key instruments which cause so much strive in the world today (which I’ve taken the liberty to term “The Tripartite of Misanthropy)—nationality, race, and most importantly religion—are all man-made concepts and not something which has been ordained by the almighty. Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as race. At the end of the day, humanity should and must prevail for the sake of our survival.

Spark, it seems there are maoists in Bhutan as well. Read the news below:

Bhutan to confront its Maoists
nepalnews.com pd Jan19

At a time when the Bhutanese government has successfully launched operations expelling Indian separatists living in its southern jungles, the government now is likely to confront its own underground Maoists.

According to Nepal Samacharpatra, this situation has been felt as the Bhutan Communist Party-MLM, is carrying different movements in Bhutan and its bordering areas regarding the anarchy created by the Druk government.

Moreover, the Bhutanese Maoists have encouraged the unemployed youth refugees residing in the camps to get involved in their movement to throw the dictator from its current regime.

The core members of the BCP have not been disclosed. However, the party was formed in Silgudi, India on 22 April, 2003. The number of people involved in the group is yet unknown.

Rakesh Chettry, a Bhutanese human rights leader, accepted the presence of BCP in the refugee camps in Nepal. However, he expressed his ignorance regarding the members of the same.

According to RB Basnet, President of Bhutan National Democratic Party, the recent operation held by the Bhutanese government to expel Indian separatists from Bhutan will no doubt back the underground communist movement.

“I feel that they will go together to fight against Bhutan,” he said.
