My I-20 expired almost eight months back and I didnt realize that. However I registered the classes and going to school. When I talked to my International advisor he said I fell out of status as I didnt extend my I-20. He let me go to college and said that I have to file application to INS with $ 140 ,financial document and other papers for reinstallment. Does anybody have gone through such experience being out of status as F-1 and applied for reinstallment? have any idea about it ,how hard or easy it is?As I have to send the papers soon to INS ,please help me out what should I do. As I have only one semester to graduate I am getting very panic and worried. Please give me suggestions. Thanks naulo_nepal

If you have taken full time classes during the time you were out of status, you shouldn't have any problem... I went through similar scenario too..

In my opinion you will need to make sure that your I-20 is current all the time. If you had realized earlier you could have filed an extension of your I20 expiration date but since it is too late for that now I think you have to file a reinstatement of status with INS explaining why it took too long( went to nepal, changed colleges etc). I don't think there will be problem with extension or reinstatement as long as you are attending college fulltime but you have to get your I-20 current. Regards Revival Waiting for a New Beginning.
