First of all, sorry to say but you praobably have a virus (s). Second of all, what is SVCHOST? It stands for "Service Host". The 'svchost.exe' error can result when your computer is infected with viruses and worms. What's the solution? - Make sure that you have an "anti-virus software". The two popular "anti-virus software" are Norton - http://www.symantec.com/ and McAfee - http://www.mcafee.com (my favorite). If you don't have any "anti-virus software", I guarantee you that you have virus. If you already have one, be sure that it's up to date. These "anti-virus software" come up with updates every other day or so since there are so many viruses and worms coming up everyday. - Another important step is to make sure that your "operating system" is up to date. Windows update - http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com is free and it scans your hard drive and lets you know if there are any critical and security updates that you need to install. I highly recommend you to take these two steps. If you have any virus, get rid of it and protect your privacy. If you have any more questions, you know where to find me. RIGHT HERE. I would be more than happy to help you. peace in Nepal luckydude |

Luckydude covered the issues well. If possible, back up critical data first. The AV install/update is the next critical step to be followed by a complete virus scan of the system. Next, go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/, dowload and install the Ad-aware software and then conduct a scan of the sytem. This will allow you to clear out any adware/spyware lurking in your system and using up system resources. Finally, proceed with the windows update that will install all service packs and patches. I find it makes more sense to install the updates on a clean system, rather than do it on one with loads of unsavoury registry entries and programs running that use up system RAM. Which Operating system you are using? You may also want to backup system files, create an Emergency Restoration Disk (if using NT/2000/XP) and boot up disk(s). If you need help with this, have the OS CD at hand and 5 floppy disks ready then give one of us a holler here. Good luck. Touche, Big trouble, that was a good one ! |

Just wanted to point out one thing: When you download a free version (unless you want to pay and download the pro version) of Ad-aware and let it scan your hard drive to find "spywares", it shows you the list of the spywares you have on your hard drive and asks you if you want to delete those or not. Just make sure that you DON'T DELETE ANY SYSTEM FILES otherwise 'czar's' suggestion might come handy: create an Emergency Restoration Disk (if using NT/2000/XP) and boot up disk(s). peace in Nepal luckydude |

For the antivirus software, I recomment having AVG Antivirus installed on your computer. There is a free version available on the internet. Just have to do a google search on it. It is good and updates just as good as Norton and McAfee. |
