3 luxury cars worth Rs 142 m New acquisitions for Palace POST REPORT KATHMANDU, Jan 17 - Royal Palace is all set to get three new British-made luxury cars. According to a highly placed government source, government has already released Rs 142 million for the purchase of the new cars and Letter of Credit (LC) has also been opened to import them. The palace is importing one Rolls-Royce limousine, one Jaguar and one yet unnamed luxury car, according to the source. The Ministry had initially released Rs 137 million but it increased the amount to Rs 142 million since the price of the cars shot up due to depreciation of Nepali currency vis-à-vis Sterling Pound. The released money is on top of government?s budgeted expenditure of Rs 329 million allotted for Royal Palace in the current fiscal year. "Since the palace demanded the money, the government had no option but to arrange it," said the source. He, however, did not disclose from which fund the money was released. When asked to comment, a royal palace official denied having any knowledge. "I have no knowledge about it, because my department does not oversee all this (import business)," said Yogeshwor Karki, Principal Press Secretary at the Narayanhity Royal Palace. Two years ago, the source said, the government had released Rs 87 million from its non-budgeted fund to import cars for the palace. here's the link. http://www.kantipuronline.com/php/kolnews.php?&nid=6294

TEXT OF THE INTERVIEW GRANTED BY HIS MAJESTY GYANENDRA BIR BIKRAM SHAH DEV TO CHINA CENTRAL TELEVISION (CCTV) (BEIJING, JULY 10, 2002) ... Question 19. And Your Majesty, last question. As the king of the Kingdom of Nepal, I believe and I understand you have a huge responsibility and also we understand that Nepal is still one of the poorest, one of the least developed countries. Many people are still living under the poverty line. That's really a very bad thing but we are also, as Chinese, we are looking forward t seeing the improving also or the uplift of the living standard of living of the people. But as the King, how do you understand your responsibility and what are you looking for ? Answer 19. Like I mentioned a bit earlier, the Monarchy in Nepal is guided by the wishes of the people of Nepal. Therefore, whatever the Monarch in Nepal does or has been doing or has done historically and will continue to do in future will be determined by the will and aspirations of the people of Nepal. In their sorrow and happiness is the sorrow and happiness of the kings of Nepal. That has been the case; that will be the case. As you mentioned, the Monarchy is aware of the hardship of the people of Nepal and Monarchy would continue to strive to bring in uplifting of the quality of life of the people of Nepal, to lessen the burden that they face today, to bring about an awareness or educate them that no one is going to come to solve our problems. We ourselves have to do it by ourselves. Everyone will put in something to help us, but the eventual benefactor is the Nepalese people, so they themselves must work towards their own upliftment. --- hear! hear! the people of nepal wish for limousines! lots of limousines! take that you prajatantrabadis!

Gyanendra : The Monarchy in Nepal is guided by the wishes of the people of Nepal. Therefore, whatever the Monarch in Nepal does or has been doing or has done historically and will continue to do in future will be determined by the will and aspirations of the people of Nepal. A fitting response from Nepali People would be: Take the limo, Jaguar and still unnamed luxury car, and get out of the country, you fantoosh. Poshendra should provide an award for this king.[Think of a context: the army is asking 500+ millions to protect hydropower infranstructure.] -- Last summer in Kathmandu, whenever I rented a taxi, I found multitudes of law-unabiding motorcyclists flouting the rules and sorrounding the taxi in a Chakrabyuha formation. The taxi always had a hard time moving, and the taxi driver always looked cantankerous as a result.Riding in a taxi with such a driver was a whole new thrilling experience. Then a report in Kantipur said there were approximately 1,60,000 (the same paper in another report put the number as 1,30,000) motorbikes registered in KTM. It is also remarkable to point out that a lot of my friends from Chitwan/Pokhara take their motorbike to go to Kathmandu, so KTM must have more motorbikes than what is registered there. Given the road situation, road length, it made absolutely no sense for someone to buy an expensive sports car, sports utility vehicle in KTM. As for Limousine, given their length, I don't know where they will drive these long monsters. But again, the royals , being as inconsiderate as they are, make commoners to empty the roads when they drive there. They don't know how it is to drive in a crowded road. It is absolutely maddening when you think how mortifying it is to live under a king.

i don't care where they will drive them or what he will do with them...all i care is why is he taking state's money to buy himself luxury cars? especially when it is evident that he is criminally rich for nepal. PITY THE POOR KING! The Shah family, which founded the Nepalese kingdom in 1768, and the Rana family, which ruled through hereditary prime ministers from 1846 to 1950 with the king as a figurehead, have intermarried so much that they have formed an aristocracy that controls much of the wealth. http://taipeitimes.com/News/world/archives/2003/08/05/2003062391 Royal wealth, including inheritance from the late king , is another issue that has attracted public attention. The demand is for transparency. And it is natural, especially in a country listed in United Nations documents as one of the world's 10 poorest nations. Suggestions that properties of the slain king be put in a trust and be utilized for welfare activities, such as running schools and hospitals for deprived and down-trodden communities, have yet to be adopted, although the king himself had agreed to such an idea. The king's positive response to this proposition was recorded in the Nepal Samacharpatra newspaper by editor Pushkar Lal Shrestha after his first audience with the monarch. ------------ ...Questions on funds routinely allocated to the palace from the national exchequer have also been raised in recent years. Speakers at a public meeting held in Kathmandu questioned why was the money for the palace increased by more than three times, when the number of members of the royal family has actually been reduced since the palace carnage of 2001. "King Gyanendra, one the country's richest businessmen ..." was how a Western reporter identified the Nepali monarch in Hong Kong's South China Morning Post of April 21. This description is ostensibly based on the background that he was a successful businessman before becoming king. Luxury hotels in Kathmandu, a sprawling tea garden in eastern Nepal and gainful partnership with a cigarette factory in the south-central region were some of his businesses mentioned. Since matters relating to the status of ownership and tax returns of these and other businesses have not been made public, King Gyanendra runs the risk of being misunderstood by his own subjects. "In fact, His Majesty could set an example of a benevolent 21st century king by making investment in factories which could offer jobs to tens of thousands of Nepalis who now are compelled to wander in the Gulf countries to work as menial laborers," said U N Pathak, a medical doctor who is also a teacher at the Nepal Medical College. http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/EF06Df02.html the known knowns ...what about the unknown unknows? They went all the distance following up on Puskar's little deeds and misdeeds and now we have someone openly ripping the nepalese people... go after this king, not people like puskar. He has done a lot more damage to Nepalese than Puskar. So let's have another round of excel spreadsheets and scrutinize the real criminal.

Jo aye nee paisa khaney, janata lai nai lutney...ohhhhhhhh I am so mad. Nepal needs that money to build road, schools, hospitals and so many other things that our leaders refuse to do. What is wrong with us...why are we so stupid to have these people take over our country? Gyaney, Girija, Baburam and the gang need to be shot..I dont think there is any other way. My blood boills everytime I read these kinds of news. What the heck are we suppose to do?

Hold your horses, folks! Your tax money is not being spent down the drain. King G will never let that happen. As it turns out, King G was offered 30 day no hassle return policy and 100% satisfaction guarantee plus free shipping and handling on all jags and rolls by the executives in england. The luxury car makers have history of making such irresistible offer to the royals around the world and king G is certainly no exception. After rolling his new jag along durbar marg with style, it will be shipped back to the dealership in england once a month long test period is over. Of course, a royal head of state returning a car for a full refund will be an unprecedented event, but nonetheless, given the country's poor economy, king G is committed in doing so, as he as for returning power back to the people. Long live the king! Later

If the news is as true as the media is projecting, then that was another nail in the coffin of monarchy in Nepal. Why, can,t horse buggies be modified to provide reception for dimplomatic guests, instead of adding to the saturated air polution and congestion in the roads of KTM. It is a necessary intervention to promote bicycle rides in the capital and mass public transports over individual vehicles. Good bless the kingdom, where monkeys rule ( I was mentioning the incidence at Indian Embassy). May this comming Chinese New year of monkey bring out better side of monkey in all of us-royals to rags. KK

If you listen to speeches king gyanendra gives, you'd notice that he never fails to emphasize the bond between Nepalis and monarchy. Ditto for Birendra, Mahendra and Tribhuvan as well. (The last one, hero of our textbook, would have traded whores for our sovereignty claimed a memoir coming out of india in the past. Lets hope our historians put the record straight soon) I think they are spot on! there is a bond between the people and monarchy (although not as strong as the palace would like to believe) but it appears to be very one sided. The reason, the royalty in Nepal always considered ordinary Nepalis sub-human. To the extent that the queen was forbidden to smile to a commoner. The royals really believed the medieval horseshiat that their blood was indeed purer than some other blood they couldn't mix with. Their parties, which sometimes went bloody wrong as we all know, included only other pure bloods. Nobody outside the clan could be trusted. So when the king or a prince goes on to a stage and insists that there is a bond, he's being truthful. But the common monarchist has yet to realize the hypocrisy of that bond. Once they do, the game will be over pretty soon for the monarchy. Right now, i think we are in half-time. I can't wait to hear the final whistle.

Folks, Here is the latest from the Pipal Bote grapevine on the Three Cars. According to the hush hush sources, secret talks were held between King G and the agitating students at Nagarjun palace on Maghesan-kranti, facilitated by the always mediating duo Pidiratna Duladhar and Damn-nath Simana of course. The King urged the student leaders for their cooperation in order to give a forward looking progressive outlet given the grave situation the nation was mired in. The students are said t to have politely reminded the Monarch that unless the situation on the ground improved, the students would be unable to do anything to relieve his discomfiture at the moment. When the King asked how he could change the ground realities, the students made a strong case for reintroducing the wheels of Westminister for Kathmandu's streets. "Unless we can reimport the true vehicle of democracy from England again, nothing else can work here," Gagan Thapa stated during the meeting over San Miguel beer and MagheSankriti ko bandel sandheko (with due apologies to Sajhapur's abhorrance of killing animals during religious festivals). Ghimire nodded his head most emphatically and and added "Your most gracious majesty, I can not emphasize enough how much we need the British model to make things work here in our country." The King turned to him "On really, how do you know that other models don't work?" "Well, we have been testing various models to identify the best suited vehicle for our Kingdom. In the last month alone we crash-tested some 57 vehicles in various locations in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, and Biratnagar. None of them seemed to hold up to our high standards", Ghimire reported. "Surely, some of them must have been better than others. Not all could have been that useless?", the King expressed his disappointment. Thapa stepped forward to convince the King on the issue. "Sure, some of the vehicles from Japan, Korea, and Germany seemed to do reasonally well against missiles and bricks and such other thinsgs. But none could withstand the fire test....they have absolutely no fire retardant capacity and we can't risk running a country on a vehicle that is not fire-safe," argued Thapa. "Come on, the Indian models are best suited to our terrain, how about the TATA?" the King insisted. All the students gave a thumbs down...they were too busy drowning down the succulent chunks of bandel with beer. The pesistence of the student leaders was enough to convince the King to import the latest British models. As soon as the Jaguar, Rolls Royce, and the Bentley arrive they will be handed over to the students for the necessary crash testing procedure. Which ever model is deemed the most appropriate and sturdy will then be adopted for the country. Let the best model win!

The report says: When asked to comment, a royal palace official denied having any knowledge. "I have no knowledge about it, because my department does not oversee all this (import business)," said Yogeshwor Karki, Principal Press Secretary at the Narayanhity Royal Palace. ****** Let's look at this whole thing from this angle: I assume that the PRIMARY task of any Principal Press Secretary would be to make sure that the institution he represents is portrayed 'well' in the press. I mean, what else would a Principal Press Secretary with his own staff and office really do? In this case, POLITICALLY it means, either he says that the news is bogus and moves on or if it's true then puts a 'spin' to it for positive PR purposes. After all, any Principal Press Secretary anywhere in the world -- whatever the guy's precise title might be -- is basically paid to make his boss look good in the media . . . in the eyes of the world, right? The fact that this guy does neither -- especially in these tense-for-the-Palace times -- and instead pleads ignorance on the grounds that this [importing cars business] is not his department can tell us quite a few things about the lop-sided decision-making processes within the Palace . . . about how the Palace seems to underestimate or even disdain the value ofwinning the public to its side. Also, such a statement by Karki also makes one wonder how loyal these hired hands really are when the push comes to shove. Karki's saying "my department does not oversee all this (import business)," reminded me, in a minor way, about what one former General publicly said soon after the royal massacre in 2001. He said something to the effect of (and I am quoting from memory here): "It's not the duty of the Army to protect Royal Family." Then again, hey, we live in interesting times in our beloved, if perplexing, maatri bhoomi. oohi ashu ktm, nepal

I don't know why people are making such a fuss about the three cars. If anything, it is the one thing that is going to bring the country together in joy; something that will make everyone happy, even those who have 'immortal longings.' Let me explain: 1. The Republicans, both on the left and the right, are unable to express their joy at the arrival of the three cars...it was the day they were waiting for, like some kind of divine sign of happy tidings ahead. The purchase of these expensive, dazzling, decadently luxurious cars will make the monarchy so unpopular that they will be sent packing sooner than they can say 'la viva republica.' What the Maoists, students, and the political parties could not do together all these months these vehicles will do in ziffy!! 2. The students in Nepal have never been happier! Like kids unwrapping their Christmas gifts, they can't believe they will now get to 'peele' these shiny cool things from England. They were actually getting bored with the same old same old Toyota, Pajero, Tata, Mahendra, and Maruti. I mean, they have gotton nothing but the same stuff for over 4o years now. About time the kids got something new and fancy! So expect the students to be out with their new toys with new enthusiasm. 3. Prachanda, Girija, Makune can't believe their luck. After the Royals are blown out of the valley by the new hurricane, the leaders can finally get the chair they always aspired to and now deserve. At last night's secret meetings at Nona Bhauju's kitchen the three men already settled the 'picking order': Prachanda will take the Bentley; Girija will have the Rolls Royce, and Makune, considering his proletarian status will settle for the Jag. "We are communists, no luxury please" he is reported to have told the journalists waiting outside the meeting venue. 4. The Darbariya camp is also mightly pleased; they still haven't finished counting the commission, working out the kick-backs, and planting the graft. Astute politicians are amazed how a single well thought decision can bring the whole nation back together! Maybe Sajha should also get into the spirit of things, for once! It is no use being party pooper all the time. SC, in jest! (just in case)

I was hoping people would remain within the bounds of decency and politeness, but I guess the blow below the belt is proving too tempting for the anal minded amongst us; I guess this is part of the plebian candor. I might be wrong on this, but from what I tell, not only do some court jesters literally have their heads up their royal you-know-what; they somehow seem to manage to get their tails down some republican gullets as well! Nepe jyu, I have seen your postings for a while to expect anything else from you, so your sermon on politeness is out of place. When I made that plea for decency, I was not asking you to tone down your republican rantings. That does not bother me at all, if anything I have come to enjoy it, so please let loose your creative juices! I hope your fiery rabble-rousing poetry will enthuse millions of Nepalis to grab the gun and the khukuri and annihilate Gyne, Parase, and what you call the "monarchy and it's desperate well wishers" to make your day. Let the streets of Kathmandu flood with the blood and gut of the royals and the reactionaries! Long live the revolution! Kill the king and hail to the new revolutionary poet!! My request was more towards mirador who had turned my 'In Jest' into a court jester with its head up royal the royal as_. I just thought that was uncalled for personal taunt. But if we all agree that basic decency and politeness in a public forum are out the windw as Mr. Nepe claims, so be it -- let us gloat in our profanity!! mirador, the figurehead was a joke, that is why I went ahead to try to make a joke out of it...tough luck people always don't get it! Sorry for mistaking your political stand (republican vs monarchy or something else; that is no concern of mine and I respect what ever that might be). But just as it was wrong of me to impute that you are one of the republicans, don't you think it is a mistake on your part to turn me into a court jester just because I made a pun about the court? Making a joke about public events/incidents should not make one a republican or a monarchist, at least that is what I feel. SC, in earnest then!

Talking about the monarch's preparation to use the notorious army to crush the anti-monarchy agitation, as if you read his mind and started a campaign here in Sajha to make Nepalese tolerable to the abuses of the royal army by saying, "Look, others are abusive too". You wrote in other thread: The RNA is blamed for abuses in Nepal. But it seems even armies from civilized nations also do pretty much the same stuff to the detainees and prisioners. A report from the BBC: Iraqi jail abuse probe launched ... I don't know how many Sajhaites have bought your arguments (because no one has replied yet), but I am sure both Maoists and the RNA must be happy with your justification for the abuses.

Nepe jyu, Oh, now I see why our revolutionary poet is peeved at me!! The use of 'ultra polite' form in my FICTIONAL, satire oriented posting irked your republican sensibilities? I am terribly sorry Sir! I will not make that mistake again...I will instead apply "Your Gyane Chor Desh Chod, Parase Chorko tauko kaat" and such other adjectives endorsed by you. You happy? And yes, Oh great visionary leader and poet, I am lost, I don't know what is right from wrong, I can't think for myself. So please be kind enough to direct me "to the right place." Oh almighty leader who know and sees and writes all!! Nepe jyu, I know it would give you great pleasure if you could hurt me, or give me pain. But you can't. So don't take credit for what you can't do...I think the psychologists call that a case of escapism. Hitler shared that syndreome. So you don't need to apologize to say " Sorry, if the journey was too painful." It would really give you a sense of power and awe and make you feel more like a man if you could hurt me, wouldn't it? I wish I could oblige you but I can't be more helpful in this department. So you will have to scribble more of the self -pitying, kill-the-king kind of prose and poetry to get even with you imiginary enemies. If that makes you feel better, more power to you Sir!! Jawos muktak aru ni! Sunau gazal aru ni!! Wa, wa, ustaz ky mara!! Just one honest question: You are a poet and writer of some repute on Sajha. As a writer, are you aware that there are several alternative textual techniques to convey the bizarre, surreal, ironic, parodic, and tragic aspects of life? So when the student in the above parody addressed the King as "Your Most Gracious" or something of that sort, you took it literally? My god, I have to pity your sense of humor or my own pathetic attempts at humor! Yes, no doubt about that. I head from the same hush hush source that the an elite RNA team has just been parachuted over the Pacific on a top secret mission to capture the revolutionary republican poet. While we are at it, I would also like to bring to your kind attention the doings of the Indian army. Hopefully people who are upset with the role of the armies and concern for the civilian 'Nepali janata' will not be able to avert their gaze from this case. I can at least conunt on you for a long comment on this news...all those people who were kicked out were not monarchists, they were true red-blooded republicans:-) (From Nepalnews.com) Indian troops vandalize Nepalese homes, locals manhandled Indian Special Security Bureau (SSB) troops vandalized dozens of homes of Nepalese citizens in the bordering area of Basantapur and Narsingh VDC in Sunsari district, according to a report published in Nepal Samacharpatra, a vernacular daily, on Monday. The report mentions that the SSB forces manhandled those who tried to retaliate. The report quoting a local resident says that the SSB forces entered into Nepalese side of the border at 12 pm Sunday, giving orders to move to another place. They vandalized the houses and beat up villagers. The incident took place at Ward No. 5, 7 and 8 of Basantaur VDC and Ward No. 8 of Narsingh VDC. There area falls 100 meters inside the Nepalese territory. Homes belonging to Abdul Jabbar, Ufar Miya, Isral Miya, Sabir Ansari, Habibur Rahman, Bali Mahamad Miya, Bechu Paswan, Khusilal Paswan, Anrit Narayan Jha and Upendra Jha have completely been destroyed, report said. Those who tried to retaliate were beaten up by the SSB jawans. Locals informed that they were ordered to shift their homes one kilometer away from the border. They had also forced the villagers to clean up the Dus Gaja (No man's land) area. Following the incident, local settlers have taken the case to the district administration, submitting a memorandum to Chief District Officer Padma Raj Regmi. The victims have asked for compensation. nepalnews.com mk Jan 20

I have had chance to make few friends who are darbar employee. Can you imagine? You have to say " PRABHU " to address these blood suckers. Are we insane? We feed them and we have to bow like slaves to greet them. Aren't they a simple human being like us? They don't even touch us or handshake with us... that's their mentality in twenty first century...
