Hi all,

Sajha friends who are in Kathmandu are invited to go bungee-jumping with a group
of fun-loving friends on Saturday, the 7th of February.

We leave Kathmandu early in the morning and will be back home SAFELY that
night.

We leave by a "reserve bus" for the Tibetan border and reach "The Last Resort" --
the home of the bungee.

The suspension bridge -- from which we jump -- is Swiss-made.
The ropes are thick -- imported from Malaysia.
And we jump from a height of 500 meters into the swirlingly angry, boulder-marked Bhote Koshi river, and survive all right to tell the tale for the rest of your life.

I haqve done it once before, and would recommend the experience to all who are looking for that extra adrenaline rush . . .

For jumpers: Rs. 1500, and that includes transport, lunch and the jump
For non-jumpers who would rather accompany their friends to spend that Saturday watching their friends jump and while enjoying the excitement: Rs. 800

These are special, negotiated prices for a group of friends for this once-in-a-blue-moon opportunity so that we can have fun together. The normal charges are much, much higher.

If you are interested to join us, please contact either:

Yogi Kayastha at nepaluz@yahoo.com or
Ashu at ashu@sajha.com

Bring snack food to much on, be prepared to tell jokes or play antaksari on the way to and from the Bungee place.

Unfortunately and regrettably, the bungee admin people have said that they would allow only Nepalis to jump with us. Ke garne?

As they say, work hard and smart.
But once in a while, throw your worries away and take some risks in life and change yourself.

Ashu,
How about a piece in Nepali Times entitled, "Risk management in Nepal: Lessons from Bungee jumping", once you return.
luckydude Posted on 26-Jan-04 03:27 PM

How about "Bungee Jumping for Dummies"? I will read it.

Please tell us about your thrilling experiences when you get back.

Luckydudue,

That's a neat animation.
Thank you for sharing it.

Gokul,

That's a cool title for an article. :-)
Will think about it.

Meantime, this morning, with a cup of tato-tato Muna chiya to keep me motivated, I
am working on a "memoir-ish" piece on what it was like working as a junior campaign
staff for a Democratic presidential candidate at the New Hampshire primary exactly four years ago. Be sure to read the Nepali Times this Friday. :-)

ssnY

Yogi, one of the organizers of this trip and who also happens to be Bhaktapur's most loyal resident, will do a write-up to be shared with all.

Lax,

I understand that you were in KTM recently.
Sorry that our paths did not cross.

Thanks a lot, everyone.

What is life if one does not try out new things and take a few risks here and there
to appreciate life more fully?

Hey Ashu! Hope the jump is fun and safe. Personally I can never forget that shoe ad (was a nike ad, I think) and thus will probably never be able todo it myself.

BTW, I remember the guy you once mentioned here ... the one who lives in Bhaktapur in a renovated old house. Would greatly appreciate if you would pleases be so kind as to remind me what his name is. Would also appreiacte if you would please give me his webaddress, which I remember you (or was it someone else?) shared here a while back.

Thanks in advance.

Qallu,

That friend's name is: Rabindra Puri.

Here is an article about his house:

Here's one more, the Namuna Ghar.

Hope this helps for now.
