LAX, so you were there on Christmas Eve, lucky you. Where were you headed? Green Hill Hotel bhaneko as you approach Mugling from Kathmandu, it is on the right prior to the junction to Narayanghat. It used to be the favorite stop for the blue Sajha buses. It was the dal bhaat spot for a good number of times when I traveled on Sajha. Nostalgic banayo tyo photo le. Thanks for posting that.

Looks like it was taken from the eastern pass of Ktm valley (sanga?) just before the Birendra Prahari School at the entry to Banepa valley. At that pass is a road that is a small road that angles off to the left and goes uphill heading north on the ridge. The photograph was taken from there, looking north-west. On the centre, left edge of the picture is Changu Narayan, just outside the picture frame. je parla parla, lujatta. :) I am basing this on a major assumption: that the peak to the top left of the picture is Langtang Lirung, hidden behind clouds on a wintry mid-morning. If this assumption is incorrect, then my guess is wrong. A slightly clearer shot of the mountains in the background would have allowed me to make a more confident guess.

Not Langtang..but Gauri Shankhar and eastwards to Cho-o-yu group of mountains that forms the himalayan backdrop in the picture. Again, insufficient clarity of the himalayas for me to make an assertion.

Well, I can read "China Temple"(zhong hua si) at the door. The statue inside has wide and corrugated chest, atypical of lean and calm Siddartha Gautam, but more typical of what the Chinese worship as "laughing Buddha". When I was in China, it struck me as an irony. Laughing Buddha? All my life, I regarded Buddha as a superhuman whose basic feature was his calmness, his stoicness at the face of adversity, his maintanance of composure when faced with the vituperative villagers, and there, in China, they not only made these huge laughing Buddhas, but they had automated Toy Buddhas who laugh histerically in the market. When several of these Buddha laughed together, a grinding cacophony would be produced which would have made the Siddhartha himself sick. After this much musing, this place is in deed confusing. It looks like China, but the motorbikes parked outside are like Indian motorbikes. Chinese are not known to ride motorbikes like that, not Indian motorbikes if China I know still exists today. I have heard the Chinese made a temple in Lumbini. I haven't been there, but hey, it may exactly be that temple.

This picture is from Lumbini, Nepal. Among many temples constructed there in the last 8/10 years, it is one of them. (Myanmar has also represented itself with a couple of beautiful looking sleek temples there). lau ja. kaso ta?
