Watching a film was no ordinary thing. It was an 'event'. Remembering our childhood days when one rarely got to see films, so any film was an entertaining experience
My family did not own a television set then. Most of the peoples in my neighborhood didn't have one either. It didn't matter if we were welcome or not, a huge group of us would make ourselves comfortable in the drawing room of the only person who owned a television set then. We would all wait anxiously for the film to start. From 6 pm onwards we would be stuck in front of the TV sets watching every single commercials (washing powder Nirama…..horlicks….complan etc).
When the cable television started, I remember giving my cable guy a long list of movies to play. He did oblige. Unfortunately, I never got to see the whole film. Because my next door neighbor was my tuition teacher too. She would drag me to her place if I didn't show up on time -- which coincided with the movie time. I grudge not knowing how Meena Kumari dies in Baiju Bawra. I was busy learning the Pythagoras theorem instead.
Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, Maine Pyaar Kiya, Asiquie and Andaz Apna Apna are special because they remind me of school days. When I browse through old slam books, these names stand out like favorite teachers and best friends.
Love and infatuation were the order during college days. Hence, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dilwale dulhania le jayenge and Rangeela hold an important place in my heart.
We enjoy movies best when they stay with us forever. When they become a personal moment. When we associate a memory -- happy or sad -- with a film. Long live movies!!

Aru lai thaa chaina, malai chai hunthyo...

haha... Made me nostalgic. LOL, I still remember when 22 of us went to watch Agneepath in Biswojyoti and we had a huge showdown with the doorkeeper because we couldn't get 22 tickets. Finally they let us in and we sat on the stairs reciting every line Amitabh Bachchan spoke in the movie (that movie was released way before it came to the Nepali theater).

Although I can't make myself watch hindi movies these days, I grew up with the movies you mentioned. Maine Pyar Kiya is all time fav. for it's awesome screenplay. Andaz Apna Apna is hilarious. Seriously I had to pause the VCR many times when I watched that movie.

Oh yeah, I also tried that Aaashiqui hairstyle... LOL!! One of the girls I had big time crush with told me that actor looks like me! Ani ke chaahiyo, suru bho aashiqui style... Took me sometime to understand she lied to me.. eheh!!

12 bajyo, good night!!

Wow!.....what about the jeans pants tattered in the Salman's Baaghi? Baseball cap with "Friend" embroidered on it? and Rangeelaa Topi and boot?
The topi company and boot company made more money out of rangeelaa theme than the movie itself. It was too much to take in Jhapa, and the people there decorated the astray dogs with rangeela topis and chased them with the rangeela song yai re yai re played in the rickshaw following the dogs!.... That was so hilarious to watch!!

We used to poke fun at a friend of ours by calling him "Shah Rukh Khan." We insisted that he looked like Shah Rukh Khan. After trying to pursuade a few people, I also started to believe that he somehow looked like Shah Rukh Khan.[I hated his laughter, from his only movie I had watched then, Darr, where he laughed like a ,well, bokaa. So, I had no problem in thinking Sante looked like Shah Rukh Khan.] The other boys had no objection, but the girls protested vehemently that someone as ordinary as Sante was called Shah Rukh Khan.Apparently, for some girls, he was an ideal of manhood.

Now,I don't watch Hindi movies, but try to watch all Amir Khan movies. After watching Dil Chahata Hai, I copied his 'shaving style', leaving a part of beard near chin, for some weeks. It was a tribute to the actor, rather than any prompted by any illusion that an Indian svelte in the adjacent department would actually notice me for that beard-do:-)
