Well why not? We've tried everything. Absolute monarchy, semi monarchy, constitutional monarchy...we nepalis wanna keep up with the world with CHANGES ;). We want to build singapore overnite. We wanna get rid of pollution overnite....so why not? les try military rule too ;). and after it fails, we'll protest and probably divide the kingdom into many smaller pieces so that all the power craving monsters will get their share. Back to medieval times. Maybe we can even do a marathon to select the king for each county then :). I am all up for it. After all, we're the bir gorkhes, patience and tolerance are not in our sabda kosh :).

The condition of state in Nepal has not been good, may it be under the congress, communists or even the future Maoists. Their policies and attitude are not going to benefit the common people. The youths or even the retired army personals use to move towards Arabian countries and nowadays Malaysia to earn mostly as laborers. The people serving in UK or in India as soldiers and workers, not to be mentioned. These people return to Nepal with hard-earned money with a feeling of insecurity and uncertainty about the state of affairs. There are no employment opportunities for the people, in rural areas, where the majority of them live, they have to work hard in field producing foodgrains not enough for their subsistence and sometimes are in indebtness. The common people of Nepal are tired of struggle between the King, congress, communists, and the Maoists. The common people are in the state of confusion.

Spark ji: Interesting thought! Given that prime powerful positions in the army are occupied by the relatives, cousins, aaphantas, friends of the same ruling-class people, one does not need to overtax one's imagination to understand the concentric nature of the power cycle.

Feb. 3, 2004? I thought Nepal was under military rule since Oct. 4, 2002! Some learned folks are wiling to bet their bottom dollar that there has been military-regressive-feudal-dictatorial rule of the baddy baddy Shah/Rana clique since the past 200 years. Did I miss something here? Look at all the military people marching in the streets, look at the chiefs of the military, police, civil police, armed police, government, bureaucracy...they are all Rana-Shah. So it has always been a military rule...and what was that about the 'unified command' and the 'militarization'...that also proves that this is military rule of regression. Shuva chintak, military rule in plain cloth! Sitara, best guess is military rule will precede republicanism.
