Mind Training and Brain Plasticity: From Contemplative to Cognitive Science

Cultivating the Conditions for Genuine Happiness

Matthieu Ricard, the author of The Monk and the Philosopher: A Father and Son Discuss the Meaning of Life (with Jean F. Revel), Schocken Books, 2000, and The Quantum and Lotus (with Trinh Xuan Thuan ), Crown, New York, 2001, will discuss how mind training can help individuals in recognising and cultivating the inner conditions for genuine happiness.

Matthieu will talk about how mind training can be linked with cognitive science and the scientific study of the brain and emotions. The lecture will also deal with research in the USA that he is involved with concerning scientific investigations into whether there are changes in brain activity during meditation. He will discuss the possible therapeutic implications of cultivating the inner conditions for
genuine happiness.
