Dr Thapa to seek French Ambassador’s clarification

KOL Report

KATHMANDU, Feb 5 - Ambassador-at-large Dr. Bhekh Bahadur Thapa has invited French Ambassador to Nepal Claude Ambrosini at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.
Thapa’s summon to the French Ambassador is connected with the latter’s comments on Nepal’s political affairs made during the face-to-face programme at the Reporters’ Club on Tuesday, according to a high-level government source.

Speaking at the programme, Ambassador Ambrosini had stressed the need for immediate restoration of democracy in Nepal. “Thapa wanted to know whether the Ambassador’s remarks on Nepal’s rule were twisted by press or presented in its original form,” the source said. “We don’t have any objection if Ambassador criticized us limiting himself in human rights issues, but certainly have some objections if he spoke on current politics.”

Ambrosini had met with the Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa and issued a press statement before peaking publicly at the Reporters’ Club. (snn)

He is accepting human rights abuse by the government. Bhekh is lost in time. When a government changes, the foreign ministry expects congratulatory messages from other countries (thereby implying their support for the current state of politics). Now Bhekh`s statement underlines that any foreign country can only support and not criticize current politics. Wouldn`t this itself be a curb on rights of a nation (in this case France) to state the rights and wrongs as it views a country. Also these people in the name of current state of politics request for all kinds of development and miltary support from other nations. Paune bhaye current politics bhajaune, naramro dekhauda object garne? It is the current politics that determines which way a bilateral relationship is heading.
