Matrika Yadav arrested in Lucknow

Working on a tip-off from Nepalese side, Indian authorities have arrested a top Maoist leader Matrika Prasad Yadav from Lucknow, India, a daily said Tuesday quoting high-level government sources.

Along with Yadav, another rebel leader Suresh Ale Magar was also arrested from Lucknow (the headquarters of Uttar Pradesh state of India), Kantipur daily said.

The Indian authorities have already handed over Yadav and Magar to the Nepalese immigration authorities of the far-western region on Sunday, the daily said without mentioning the date of their arrests.

Yadav was the chief of the "Madheshi Autonomous People's Government" declared by the Maoists two weeks ago in Sarlahi, the daily said. Magar, an ex-University teacher, was active in the intellectual circle of the Maoists, it added.

After the arrests, Yadav and Magar were driven to a military camp of Royal Nepali Army in the mid-west region, the daily further quoted the unnamed source, as saying.

India has been saying that it would apprehend Maoist leaders active in its soil, provided, Nepal give information to India about the whereabouts of the rebels, the daily added.

Amazing!
With a friend like India who needs enemy? said someone recently here, how true! It seems India is raising the Maoist leaders like khasi-bakhra in some farmhouse in Lucknow or thereabouts.

Every now and then they will entice the Nepali government with a few of these bokas...the message seems to be: do our bidding and we will give you some of these khasis. So far they have only handed over the low level Maoists like Matrika Yadav and Suresh Ale. I wonder if this was quid pro quo for the recent signing of the Uppe Karnali hydro power project, a 300 MW power source for free.

I wonder what kind of price the Indian government has set for the big fish like Prachanda and Baburam? Maybe if the government gives them the 10,000 MW lower Karnali for free the Indian friends will handover the big bookas.

Let us see how this khasi-booka trade grows in the months to come!
