'Maoists to recruit 50,000 child militia by April-May'
nepalnews.com mr Feb 23 04

Maoist rebels will recruit school students to its militia to achieve the target of 50,000 child militants by this April-May, a news report from Nepalgunj said Monday quoting sources. "The decision to raise the child militia was taken on January 10-11 by the organisation's western sub-central committee," the report by The Himalayan Times said, quoting Kamal Shahi, a central secretariat member of Maoists' students wing, ANNISU-R.
Maoists intend to 'induct' 375,000 students by the end of Baisakh (April-May), Shahi further "disclosed", according to the daily. "ANNISU-R members admitted (that) the students abducted from Holeri Secondary School were meant for the child militia," the daily said, adding that the Maoists want to counter-attack on the Royal Nepali Army (RNA) with the new recruitments. The Maoists have "elected" to go to town, telling students and their guardians that the military training, to be provided to them by the Maoists, would stand them in good stead in case of an attack by the RNA, the daily added. "There is no age limit for recruitment to the child militia but bonafide rules of war will apply," Shahi further said. "None will be coerced. One militia will be levied from each school." Maoists' announcement to recruit children in the army has come at a time when voices are being raised to declare educational institutions, particularly schools, as the "zone of peace".

damn what r they upto? shit why people turn to beast in the run for power........u cant compell ur ideology...it should come from within....why the hell we nepalese still have the habit of always trusting the one who comes n speaks ...actually they only speak coz actions speak louder than words... one thing is sure guys we the nepaleese r lastai sojhos..I wanna be proud of it but arent we digging our own grave?

This is very disturbing news. Something must be done to prevent this. Or RNA will be killing them because they will be Maoshit.

I hate to be CYNICAL, but, assuming that the news is true:

If these kids were from, say, St. Xavier's, Budhanilkantha and Rato Bangala schools,
all hell would break loose in Kathmandu.

But, thank God, they're from remote parts of Nepal -- and they remain faceless, nameless and futureless kids in whose name donations come to this country, NGOs
run and adults get jobs.

In the next several days, beyond the obligatory human rights-ish outrage for a day or two, no one in Kathmandu will spare any sympathy for these young cannon fodders.

And Nepal-based crisis management, crisis resolution and crisis analysis groups of various strands and stripes will just go on to fatten their reports, and, hey, life
will go on.

Meantime, Kathmandu's romantically misguided leftist intellectuals (most of whom -- I
can name names -- have conveniently managed to send their kids abroad) keep on making excuses for the Maoists while forever blaming the political parties and/or the king.

Yep...children from remote areas have been abducted by Maoists lots of times. But since they are poor nobody gives a flying f**k about them.
I wonder what is up with that ghokantey budhi Baburam? Why is he making poor Nepalis suffer more. Pap dhuri bata karucha bhanchan...hopefully he will pay for his sins!

I, for one, do care about those kids. Trouble is, there is not a whole lot I can do by myself to stop this. Let's hear some serious proposals. One proposal could be to start a cash reward for the capture of Dahal, Bhattarai, and other top leadership. Would $100,000.00 per maoist leader suffice?
