Hey guys

I am trying to buy a mobile set that is compatible with NTC service in Nepal, but dun know whether it is possible. I just know that it should be compatible with GSM. Has anyone sent mobile set to Nepal? If you guys have any information, please kindly share with me.Your help will be appreciated.
If you know any online store, you can give it to me. I checked Thamel.com, Muncha.com, but i found it way up expensive.

thanks

Hi, any mobile that is GSM 900 compatible and UNLOCKED will work on NTC Mobile.

Most triband and many dualband GSM phones work on GSM 900 networks (check the label before buying).

What is important though is that the phone has to be unlocked. A locked phone only works with the provider who sold it to you. AT&T Wireless only sells locked phones. T-mobile sells locked phones, but if you have been a subscriber for 90 days and tell them you are traveling abroad they can give you the unlock codes (just a set of #s to enter in the keypad).

Once unlocked your phone can work with the SIM of any compatible phone.

There are stores in the US that sell unlocked phones as well, but these phones tend to cost more (part of the cost of locked "free" or subsidized phones is spread over your monthly payments of hte contract).

And don't forget to try E-bay as a source of cheap unlocked phones.

Personally I have a Nokia 6610, bought locked, but then unlocked before traveling. It worked beautifully in Nepal with an NTC Prepaid SIM (which took all of 20 minutes to obtain at the NTC office in Jawalakhel)... the only trouble I had was that some SMS messages to other NTC phones had delivery problems, but I don't think that was a problem of the phone itself.
