Directors blame uncreative film makers for slacking film industry nepalnews.com rs March 02 04 Renowned film directors and actors in an interaction program organized at the Reporter’s Club on Tuesday blamed the unprofessional and uncreative film makers for the slacking film industry of Nepal. They were of the view that the present regression of the country is just one of the factors that are adversely affecting the industry, but not the prime reason as many think. “To put the entire blame on the unfavorable situation of the country for the deteriorating film industry would just be hiding ones flaws,” they said. Speaking in one voice, they said that the society can never remain static so instead of sticking to one formula, the film makers should offer new themes to the audiences to sustain in the changing environment. “When we offer same storyline to the audiences year after year, they are bound feel apathetic,” said a film producer Yuvaraj Lama giving the example of clashes between mother in law and daughter in law that we often see in the Nepali movies. Lama also cited the inactive Nepal Film Development Board (NFDB) as one of the reasons behind the declining film industry of the country. Stressing on the need to internationalize the Nepali films, well known film director Tulsi Ghimere said, “When our films get international exposure, the film makers in the country will be forced to come up with new ideas to sustain in the international market.” Criticizing the award distribution function of being influenced by nepotism and favoritism, Ghimere appealed the government to recognize the film industry as one of the other industries of the country. Ghimere, remarking NFDB of being very inactive, declared to form the film director’s federation to work for the development of the industry. Harihar Sharma, General Manager of Federation of Nepalese Culture also conceded that Nepali film industry lack creative film makers. Besides, he also stated the lack of infrastructure as one of the other main reasons for the slumping industry.
