Is it legal for Sadhus to smoke Ganja in Nepal? If ganja itself is illegal, then is just de-criminalized for the Sadhus, or is there a law that grants them permission?

On the same note, is ganja and family (charas/hashish/bhang) legal on Shivaratri and/or Holi, or just tolerated?

Excellent question. But again, it is so prevalent in our Nepali society, you don't even think in legal term.

I certainly remember those good old days, when broke, I would go to Pashupatinath and just sit by a group of Sadhus. Eventually the chilam would make its way to me, and a hit or two were always there for me to take.

What a life.

NK...Who defines what's legal and what not? On what criteria? Is alcohol safer and that's why it's a socially accepted drugs? Then alcohol related problems far exceeds Ganja problem.
Our culture is more simpler than Western's. Something left untouched will create a higher path than being too aware of it. We do have more liberal laws realting Ganja than US, but then who has more problems?....that's the question. Is the civilized nation's policy( those written by highly educated people compared to our society) working? Why? Ask these questions to yourself. What makes our culture less succeptable to Ganja problems than the West? Try to find these answers and post yur thoughts.
