Most of the shows on cable derive their entertainment value from sex. They peddle the concept of a life without consequence and how much fun it can be. As we can see many examples all around us, in no area is overindulgence(eg food, drugs) over a sustained period of time a good idea. The news drives makes one paranoid over a period of time. It is usually negative and aimed at sensationalizing not informing the viewers. They are usually biased and repeated over and over again(waste of time...). The advertisements makes you want things that you do not need. You end up spending and buying things you do not need instead of saving up towards more important things. Sterotypes of how one should look and what lifestyle one should aspire for in life are programmed into to subconscious over a period of time. It is no wonder that we see clones all around us in what people want out of their lives and what they consider worth possessing or achieving. A six figure salary, a high-end car, a cruise trip. There hardly seems to be anything original any more. The media is performing cloning at the psycological level. Examples of teenage girls and young women torture themselves to look like celebrities abound. Similarly, watching western tv channels makes one covet the things attractively displayed there. A white husband/ wife are one of the things that are coveted by those exposed to the western tv channels. Similarly, those exposed to excessive bollywood movies covets indians lifestyle and indian love life (including indian boyfriend/girlfriend). Ironically cable causes an individual to loose her/his individuality. Could this be the reason of the recent sajha spat between the sexes? (adapted from an outside source)
