Kantipur Publications, which celebrated it's 11th anniversary a few weeks back, is now more younger... Nepal's largest publishing house again turned towards younger generation of Journalists for the leadership of it's publications on Sunday. In what is being described as another surprising move (especially for those 'so called senior' journalists who were also eying for the top job), Kantipur Publications has decided to choose a young journalist Sudheer Sharma as Nepal Magazine's new Editor. Mr Sharma, a brilliant journalist who rose to fame with series of ground breaking reports, especially on the ongoing Maoist Movement, was serving as Assistant Editor in Nepal. He came to Nepal Magazine from another fortnightly magazine Himal. Twenty nine year old Sharma is also remembered for several special reports for Kathmandu Today magazine and Jana Aastha Weekly. According a source from within the publication, reporters and other senior journalists in Nepal Magazine, a fortnightly, were in jubilant mood when Sharma officially chaired a first editorial meeting today. Before this, Kailash Sirohiya, Managing Director, Kantipur Publications, Bindoraj Gyawali, Director, KP, and Rajendra Bahadur Singh, AGM, KP congratulated Sharma. They also participated in a meeting where almost all journalists and staffs of Nepal Magazine were present. Mr. Sirohiya said: "Kantipur has started a tradition of choosing the head of it's publications from within the organization rather than looking outside." Mr. Gyawali added: "Every reporters in the Publications will have an equal opportunity to show and prove their talents to reach to the top position." A few months ago, the publishing giant find celebrated journalist and the famed 'Coffee Guff' columnist Narayan Wagle as the new Editor of it's flagship daily Kantipur. At the same time, Prateek Pradhan (both Pradhan and Wagle are in their Mid thirties) was selected as the Editor of The Kathmandu Post. 29 year Sudheer Sharma, third to lead Nepal Magazine succeeds Tirtha Koirala, a senior journalist who led the magazine as Editor for more than a year. Mr. Koirala will be heading the News Department of Kantipur Television. One of the country's most famous Television personality Mr. Bijay Kumar is the first Editor of Nepal Magazine.

Congratulations to Sudheer!! Way to go!! Ever since Sekhar Kharel and Sudheer Sharma joined the editorial team at NEPAL fortnightly magazine in 2002, they have worked hard to liven up the magazine in ways more than one. For instance, they have made the magazine more contemporary, more hip and relatively more youth-centric, without sacrificing some of the hard-hitting reporting for which the magazine has come to rival HIMAL Khabar Patrika. Still, as a well-wisher of NEPAL, I would say that the magazine needs to beef up the depth of its coverge of out-of-KTM news. oohi ashu ktm, nepal

I was kind of surprised, because I thought Sharma was with Himal. Now, I get it. Congrats to him. I was a regular reader of both Nepal and Himal when I was in Nepal. Both are great papers.
