BEFORE YOU READ: I have seen so many things here in America, like everyone else has noticed it, but in Sajha i never see that kind of post. So i wanted to write a little story, even if i dont write good, i hope you will read it anyway. On this Sotry many events and time dont collide, but i wanted to show everything that i have seen. On the other hand its just a story not targted to anybody. A fictional story.:)

Gazing at the changing NEPAL and ME

Aju yesai ke lekhum lekhum jasto laggyo .so I decided to write this, ¡§Gazing at the changing of Nepal and ME¡¨

Abu Nepal ko barema ra auta Nepali(me) ko barema lekkhna lako chu, tesaile Nepali script mai leekhnu paryo bhanera socheko tara ke garne, I don¡¦t know how to type in nepali. HEHE hyaa sajha bro you caught man, that¡¦s not only the reason I didn¡¦t write in nepali. Khash bhanne ho bhanne teti matrai ni hoina. The truth is sajha since you and me are so close.let me tell you something brother.."yarr maile nepali ma lekkhyo bhanne k bhannum yar.you wudnt be able to read. Not only I would miss spell words and have too much spelling errors. It would also be kind of shame on me. On a Nepali student who is studding at DARVARD at LOSTAN, who everybody thinks is a brilliant guy. kya karrun yar, actually its not my fault .Bau le sano dekhi nai India pathayo paddhna lai. I didn¡¦t really wanted to go but he said it was for my benefit, he was also tired of seeing bomb blasts and Nepal banndh .kya karee.."

So, let me introduce myself to you. My name is Rakesh Shrestha and I am a son of Rabi Sherestha who owns Nepal¡¦s delicious momo making Everest Cafe and very famous Why Why Chau Chau. He is one of the business tycoons of Nepal. He has always wanted the best of me; because he didn¡¦t get the best and he had to work hard to get where he was now. I remember on my 14 b-day he had bought me an electric guitar set which was well wroth about more than 60 thousand rupees. Yah talking about music, I always listened to Guns n Roses, LOBO and Raise against the Machine, Nepali music wasn¡¦t just my thing but my mom didn¡¦t understand that and sometimes she use to force me to play songs of that big glasses dude, Narayan Gopal. Ooh dear god-„³I use to hate it. Well but again I use to play it to make my mom happy.

Those were the days. Well when I finished my 10th grade in India in 2002, I came back to Nepal. There I studied at St XAPIEr's college; I was doing my +2 there, When I studied there I was so glad to see so many things. My friends mostly spoke English and our school emphasized so much in English Rather than Nepali Language. It was a very good movement in becoming an advanced country like America.

I think I was born to come to America, at least that¡¦s what I always thought. My dad also wanted me to go to America, he said I had no future in Nepal, and I use to reply him "As if Nepal has any future, who can have future on this undeveloped disgusting country." I remember my grandmother use to hear our conversation and give me a vast lecture on HOW I COULD BE THAT ONE PERSON IMPROVING THE COUNTRY...wasn¡¦t she annoying, GOD!BHguwan MAlai BReak Dau GOD!! So well with all the help I could get from everyone, by everyone I mean bribing everyone to passport office to the airport I finally arrived in America. Then I came here, and started studding here at DARVARD in LOSTON.

Since I arrived in America my life changed, I had to cook my own food; I couldn¡¦t call on Kanchi didi to boil me a cup of tea or Rameee to wash my dishes. Can YOU ALL BELIEVE IT, HAD TO DO EVERYTHING BY MY SELF!!!!

Anyway after I arrived here in America, I don¡¦t know how, but I seem to care more about Nepal than I use to. I sarted thinking of thinking on my act on Hrithrik Roshan kanda where I chased some neighboring country dudes with lammo iron ko rod le. I also went to that 1974 concert, but still I don¡¦t think they are good enough. Well I do have internet access, so I check out Nepalnews.com pretty often. I never use to read single newspaper at Nepal but here I read about what¡¦s happening in Nepal and amazes be quite a bit that I didn¡¦t know what was going on when I lived there, and here I know much then I use to.

Ah, well I do write sometimes in Sajha.com and post stuff about how we can improve current situation in Nepal but hardly anyone replies. I don¡¦t know why?? Last time this dude was telling me in Sajha Chat "dudeee, you cannot improve Nepal¡¦s condition by living in America." You know what I told him, "Dude, At least I think about my country, I am better than those Abhishok and Silpa." who slipa and abishek you ask??
Ooh, those are my best friends they seem to be in love with each other. One studies in St. Xpaiers and other in Kalo Bangla, they don¡¦t even care about what¡¦s going on around in country, I know for sure they don¡¦t read any newspaper at all, nor do they are active in any political activities(well, hehe sajha bro you caught me again, I cared less to too when I was in Nepal), all they want to do is finish their school and come to America. Looking at myself I tell them, "why don¡¦t you study there, sabai Nepali educated youth America ayo bhanne, Nepal ma marna lako buda ra budi haru matra bassne??", but they never listen to me, they reply to me saying "sale chor, afu chass America ma, mooj gareko chas ani malai bhanchas."

confused Posted on 07-Mar-04 05:10 PM

Khoi moj ta ke bhannu, I work my rear end off, kahile kahi ta I see smoke coming out of my rear end tara still I have to survive, ghar bata katti paisa magauune, bau jatti dhani bhaini, American dollar ajha dhani cha. Well, I have met some Nepali dudes out here too, Prakash dai, who I really like, works in a gas station. Nepal ma Bank ma kaam garthiyo re, khoi kina America ako ho, he has 2 children and a wife, who works as well. Usko barema ke bhannum, he came here in a tourist visa(later he converted it to, I don’t know some kind of other visa), just like every other Nepali to achieve an American dream, tara now he works hard. He works for an Indian, fills out cooler and beer cans. Whenever I go visit him he starts complaining about living an American life and how hard it is, he doesn’t tell me that he doesn’t like it here, but you can completely see it in his eyes. "chori haru kai lagi baseko chu yaha, Nepal gaiera ke garne, yesto ta cha situation, kahile nepal band kahile ke, ani pheri school kai arko tension, kun school ma padhaune ani school ko fees, ma eklai basne bha bhaii ta jattha yo desh chodera kahile jannthe" yehi words huncha jahile ni uha ko mukh bata. Ani talking about his girls, ke bhannu Chwakk che chwakk dubai jana. Kahile kahi dekkhira huncha pasal ma auuda jada. ani pheri buda, usko chori le dherai msn ma chat gari bhanera, tension garcha jahile ni. "Bha nabha keta keti haru sanga chat garne bhaneko cha baseko cha..dikai banaisakkee, asti ta 7 hours lagatar internet ma baseki, ke bhanne hola" I can understand his fears, taruni che chori, USA ma ta baseko cha. Bichara Prakash Dai, I couldn’t even tell him that guy was me who she was chatting with for 7 hours.

Well talking about me again, I graduated from college on May 2008 majoring on Computer Science, just like that; a well known software company offered me a job in good position. Before I accepted the job, realizing it all that has happened to Nepal on all these years I really wanted to go back to Nepal, ahile ta jhan maobadi le tarai tira pani dherai thau ma kabja garisake cha, looked it up at Nepalnews.com last night. So I emailed my mom stating how I really wanted to come back to Nepal and serve my country but mom emailed me back saying "satyanass cha yaha, ke auchas, tyo pale dai thiyo ni, Ram bahadur, tyo ta gorkha bhagera Maobadi ko sainik ma bharti bhaiicha, heer chora nepal ko sithiti kharab cha, yehi kathmandu matra baki cha, Sadak bhari sipai nai sipai ghumerahunchan, yaha ta dang dung auta diuta bomb balasta bhaiira huncha hapta ma ek choti" Well I did expect this from her since, I do read news nowadays but what she told me later on the email was really disappointing, she told me to stay here in America and accept the job. "talai kina Nepal auunu paryo, kun dina kathmandu ni khattam hudai cha, yaha ke cha ra tehi baass ramro keti behe gar, paisa ni kamauchas, teti bhai pugdaina"

Sometimes I wonder What if I didn’t come to America, I might have been that one person to change the history of Nepal like hajurama said, but at that time I viewed the other way, I looked for my benefit. Soon there will be no Nepal; there will be a peace of land with blasted bus and shot down people lying in the floor.
THE END
_sade Posted on 07-Mar-04 06:34 PM

Confused bro. I agree. My family keep saying it too, that I would rather graduate and look for some stable job and settled here than thinking of going back . They are the same people who made me promise to return back after i was done with my studies when i was leaving my homeland. Its serious problem? what if all youngsters quit the country like that.

In jest

well thax for reading it you all....tehi ho dekhhne le matra taha paucha :D thax again
mahakaal Posted on 08-Mar-04 09:39 PM

yeah true dekhne le matra tha paucha.but let me tell you guys one thing you all remeber nepal more because you didnt have to cook our own food and wash your clothes and most of all you always had a broad shoulder of your dad to fall back on if you were to be in a financial problem.say whatevr thats true and will remain true.you remember nepal more cause you had friends there with whom you could hang around and sit down on a chowk with a cup of tea......you rememebr nepal simply becasue of the easy life you had.so its all crap of yours to say that you want to do somthing for the country and stufff but hte maobadis are stopping you and your parents to let you in back in the country.
95 percent ,,,dont lie ,is all about the green card and the dollar and you wanted to see american culture and the "hot chicks" .gayera padhum ali ali dam banau milyo bhane greencard liyun thats the mentality.sure as hell it does not apply to every body but still most of you.
yeh maobadi have created nuisance as everybody knows ,but, right now its more of a BIG EXCUSE for persuing the green crad.i herad prem raja mahat say he left nepal becaue of maobadi welll well as far as i know he came to the states long before the maobadi rampage.now thats a typical example.
SO THER MORAL OF MY LONG STORY IS IF ANYBODY WANT TO STAY LONG OR FOREVER IN THE US HE HAS ALL THE RIGHT TO DO SO .EVERYBODY IS FREE TO CHOOSE HIS FUTURE BUT FOR GODS SAKE DONT ALWAYS POINT TO MAOBADI AND STUFF OF NEPAL FOR YOUR GREEN CARD AND DOLLAR DREAM.BE HONEST AND SAY YOU LIKE THE US OR YOU SEE YOURSELF STABDING BETTER IN US.
fed up of people who go the states stating that they will come back to nepal after their desired goal is achieved in the american embassy and later deny to come saying nepal ma ta kasto kasto feel huncha ,maobadi cha, future chaina.say whatever to the world you ll never be able to lie to yourself

I agree with you to the fullest Confused BRo. There are obstacles everywhere. Same here, My parents ask me to go to Nepal for visit only. THey were the same couple who tried so hard not to send me ouf of the country. And when I insisted to leave, I had 10,000 reasons why I should return back. (Honestly: I want to return after completing my studies). now the other way aroud is true. They will point 10,000 reasons why I should settle here. I Really DO not Undestand this.

Mahakal JI your CLaim is not Universal. I can give you more than 10 names of individuals all from single State, who graduated, had good jobs here But still left for NEpal within last 1year and half. Yes they also had Green Cards. THey could have recieved Citizenships if they wished. But they chose to leave. How can you accuse us Nepali in the US of getting addicted to Green Card and US Cultures?? If you realize, most of those brothers had been out of US for more than 6 months. Their Green Cards might not work anymore. Yet, they cared more about Nepal and Nepali.

Ask ANyone and they will tell you how Difficult is it to live in US? You might not die if you do not work for a year back there in Nepal but you will never know what will happen to you, if you do not work for a single month here.

I guess you are one of our Nepali brother who had tried so hard to get the VISA/Win DV lottery but didn't get one. It appears as though you are pouring your frustration on us.

we gotta learn to respect each other no matter where we are. You know, it ain't fair to accuse someone of something else before you get to see/feeel/experience what that someone is going through.
Nothing personal against you.
MY posting is based solely on what you had posted prior to my posting.
Good luck to all.

Always proud
to be a Nepali.

mahakaal bro whatever you said was true..we want to come here because we dont see the real thing but we just fantasize what we want. and yes Maobadi has been a excuse for all of us as i stated in my story, do you really think people in nepal also care about thier country?? do you think those student studing in Rato Bangla or any high paid private school have done anything i repeat anything in this situation..? nothing bro..i tell you each and every parents of that student is hoping for their child to go abroad and study...bro timi le bhaneko ni thik ho..tara when you come here and see the life out here and see the life out there you will see the differnece.. Here you will die for your voice and your existence and there yOU are you..you are a NEPALI like all the others..its not always abt the chixs and the money..its also abt the society you live in and your opinion and your culture ...
ani maobadi ko issue bro ....i assure you if everybody is dying to come to the states outcome is not positive....i realized it late..hope poeple will realize it earlier..

thax again people for reading it..
MEera Posted on 09-Mar-04 01:46 PM

Confused, read your story, soooooooooo true!!!!!!!
Especially the part where after coming to the US, I read Kantipuronline and Nepalnews everyday, ashamed to say it but I never did that back in Nepal.
Well, I always wanted to buy a house in the mountains and meditate (hehe), my dream but I was packed and sent here (sob sob). Well I like it here as much as I liked it back home, so ain't complaining.
No the visa consouller never asked me if I would come back to Nepal.
Do I want to go back or live here? Rright now I can only say I want to complete my studies, will do whatever the future holds for me.
No plans. Live for today (my latest motto!!!!!!!)
mahakaal Posted on 09-Mar-04 05:05 PM

read your post confused and that was good comment of yours which is true and the way you view things is appreciated casue thats thwe way it should be viewed.
PROUDNEPALI hell with dv lottery and visa thing as i know which country i am in.and dont have that attitude about yourself being in an elite group becasue you are a nepali in the us and you achieved or did something great.i tooo have been to places and am well aware of life outside nepal.so please stop thinking that every body dies to go to us.and i never said that every body i said most and if you dont believe then you are in the states and you should know the america nepali convetionor smth that happens there and look at the turnover there and look at the illegals there and also please dont say that all 100 thousand or even more nepali in the states are there for the sole purpose of study and thier objective they show in the american embasssy to a acquire a visa.
too_tough Posted on 09-Mar-04 05:26 PM

What our parents did for us was probably for our own good. They wouldn’t want their children growing up in a country where there seems to be no future, what with all the ongoing conflicts. Take it as a cloud with a silver lining. Maybe u, or for that matter, we, were the chosen ones to survive these conflicts and in the future, return back to Nepal to make it a better place to live in. Maybe we are the future leaders of Nepal. (i know i might sound a bit ridiculous saying this...) We may miss Nepal, but we all have to look at the positive side of things as well. Not moan and groan as we always seem to do. Hope is all that we can live in right now… Hope for a brighter Nepal...

ProudNepali Posted on 10-Mar-04 11:27 AM

Bro Mahakaal!!! Calm down. Correct me if I am mistaken but this is what you wrote:
“mahakaal Posted on 03-08-04 9:39 PM Reply | Notify Admin "

"95 percent ,,,dont lie ,is all about the green card and the dollar and you wanted to see american culture and the "hot chicks" .gayera padhum ali ali dam banau milyo bhane greencard liyun thats the mentality."

dude your above claims are so untrue. I cannot say that there isn't anyone of such attitude but the stats. you provided i.e. 95% is way too high. How can you tell that our Nepali brothers/sisters are such and such. First of all 95% of us will have no time or money to do what you assume will do. Just imagine how tedious a life will be?? When you do not get to see your family members or relatives or good friends?? Do all the cooking by yourself??? then there’s the cleaning and shopping???? some 6-12 (some work even more) hrs of work every single day?? Then there’s the school (for us students), full time, where is the time to study?? Do assignments?? Researches?? And what about the Mt. Everest like tuition fees?? The so-expensive House/room rents?? Oh yeah all in US $$$$. And to add on to that some $$$ to be sent to Nepal for families and/or relatives..... How can it be possible?? Here in America you Earn for only what you work.

Not all of us here thrive to get DV lotteries/Green Cards. Honestly, I do not have a Green card, Neither a DV lottery. Never applied for such. I could if I wish. I am a full- time student too. But still I am surviving. I can tell my life was much better back there in Nepal then here. Ask other folks here and they will give you the same reply. But it is about future too. Bro, not everything is about “Money, chicks, or American Culture” there’s more than that.

By the way!! How many of us can afford to get (hot) chicks???? entertain with expensive charms??? Eat American?? Live american??

The fact is very different from what you think. Oh yeah 95 % of us folks here eat Nepali food either for lunch or dinner. Ask other folks how many of us hang out with Americans or others besides Nepalese??? dude 99% of us hang out with our own Nepali friends. Oh come on.. Give me a break. I can go on and on....

But do you still believe your claims to be true. Not telling that, you are all wrong but you are not all right either.
You need to chill out BRO
lll_lll Posted on 11-Mar-04 09:49 AM

Why are you torturing us brother Gaz? You went to nepal, that's perfectly fine, You had nagarkot that is fine too, You had loads of fun, that is good, but why?? why do you have to put these pics here?? Pics of those juicy aalu and chana and that chowmin? I wouldn't mind kicking you for that!!

I have to admit that I like things that I hated while I was in nepal... like nepali news, gundruk ko jhol, muula ko achar (damn! I hated its smell)....small things like that. Maybe it's cuz I didn't realize their value while they were plenty. That's a human nature..... can't complain about it.
