"Nepal is a multiethnic, multilingual, democratic, independent, indivisible, sovereign, Hindu and Constitutional Monarchical Kingdom." 'At the time the constitution of 1990 was written there was pressure to make Nepal an officially secular state like India. However, in the end, the views of the Hindu establishment won the day, and the constitution makes Nepal a Hindu country. In fact the constitution puts "Hindu" into such a fundamental clause (4.1) of the constitution as to make the Hindu way of life a basic part of Nepalese life.' Should it change?

I dont see anything , either bad or good, going on due to this clause.Instead, change, or an effort to change may bring religious rivalry. What is written there is fine for me. I say a big NO.

Why is this even a question? Of course it should change. People like me, who are not Hindus, get very offended by such statements. To all Hindus, who agree that Nepal should remain a Hindu country, or be defined as such, ask yourself, how you would react if the situation were reversed. If Nepal was defined as a Buddhist nation, and laws were passed accordingly, then how would you feel? But then again, I am not surprised. This is a country where women are still treated as second class citizens. This is a country where caste system still runs strong. So, when citizens of its own nation, who have a different faith than those of Hindus are discriminated against, there is no wrong done here! There is no surprise here. This is NEPAL after all. B_D.

I find it funny when people talk about discrimnation in Nepal as if Nepal is the only country that has it.But when they are discriminated in USA or any foreign country then it's okay? Many they forget that discrimnation, the existence of superiority and inferiority due to skin, color, religion, economic status and social status exists in every country all over the world. And I still wonder if it should change or should remain the same? "No discrimination shall be made against any citizen in the application of general laws on grounds of: religion (dharma), race (varya), sex (li_ga), caste (jât), tribe (jâti) or ideological conviction (vaicârik) or any of these." (11.2) "The State shall not discriminate among citizens on grounds of religion, race, sex, caste, tribe, or ideological conviction or any of these." (11.3 [part]) "No person shall, on the basis of caste, be discriminated against as untouchable, be denied access to any public place, or be deprived of the use of public utilities." (11.4)

After analyzing everything,I believe they SHOULD change it.It's easier for Nepalese who are Hindus to say NO. But then again isn't having a king, letting Nepal rule by corrupted politicans, dominating women and the "untouchables",calling it the only Hindu nation, being a total moron infront of people and thinking "I am cool",criticizing about Nepal and Nepalis and being Western (and letting go of your own values and traditions down the drain),wasting time, working at a resturant and gas station in US(doesn't matter what but gotta stay in US),marrying white amrikan girls/guys(no matter how ugly he/she is),sleeping around with god only knows how many people but expecting a "virgin" when getting married, not doing anything to develop Nepal but only sitting far away in a foreign land and talking about it"no one is doing anything about it.Nepal Khattam huncha her na aba.Nepal ma kehi chaina garna"(specially when one is drunk)and so on....is a part of Nepali Culture and that we shouldn't be losing it? So boston dude who gives a damn whether people like you get offended or not? That's who we are :)

Bilbo Baggins, Sankaa,Gerox and Bardan, If tomorrow they decide to declare United States a christian state, you guys will be the first to vent steam and most probably you guys are the kind to play the race card at the slightest chance. When it comes to equality back in Nepal, you think the state religion should be hindu, what a joke !! In a perspective you guys are biased and racist too, so that gives you no right to protest racism or inequality be it any kind, or anywhere. I would say, offcourse , Nepal should be a secular state, then only truly would it become a beautiful garden as aspired King Tribhuvan.
