Congrats Kevin bro! I see a baby in progress! also I see child tax credit and an additional exemption credit, if you are in 25% bracket a total saving of $1,775.00 in 2004 Federal tax and around $260 in California Taxes (Just enough for Diapers). Congrats once again! Taxman

I see two people (not dead yet:p) embracing each other. Thinking about marriage and maybe life insurance, 401(k), retirement fund blah blah blah.... how about a baby? ummm... maybe. But they should open a savings account and start saving for the baby's college fund. wait! wait! I think the guy is saying,"hon! I think we should open a joint IRA account" Taxman, I don't know which table/calculater you used to do your calculation but I came up with different figure than yours. According to my calculations, they can save more than just $1775.00 by getting married. First of all by having a child they will be able to deduct $3,050 from their total income, which will bring down their income by that amount and they can deduct $1000 (child tax credit) from their tax amount. In addition they can receive earned income credit (EIC) depending on their income level. Besides who can forget about the new IRA account they will be opening together; they can save more by opening a traditional IRA account. So, as I see it they can get more refund than just $1775.00 in their federal tax return. I don't know about california's state tax. u_day

u-day, Kevin and family are my prospective clients. I am trying to impress them with my tax knowledge, therefore no "chirkee" please (if they don't live in CA then you can have them as your clients) :) PS: By the way the inflation adjusted personal exemption for 2004 is likely to be $3,100. (25% of $3,100=$775 add child tax credit of $1,000 makes $1,775) Jai hos Uncle Sam ko!

Taxman dude! We are talking about 2004 ( present year) why do we need to adjust inflation? we are not talking about 1950s to make the adjustment. BTW I was just trying to help you by increasing the saving amount from $1775.00 u_day
