Looks like you should also concentrate on making your Executive Committee more diverse. Almost every member is a brahmin.

STUPID MISSION STATEMENT The header image in your Web site (gmu) reads "Committed to bringing Nepal to mainstream America." Now, how stupid is that statement. My friend, I think you are trying to say "Nepali" instead of "Nepal."

Thanks for your suggestions. Regarding diversity in the Executive Board, it all depends on who is interested in searving the organization. The election for the next term will be held sometime in March, 2002. I will forward your comments to the election or nomination committee. Regarding the mission statement, I am not sure Nepali would be any better. What it really trying to say is committed to bringing Nepali issues and all other values i.e. culture, tradition, languages, literatures into mainstream America. Non of the GMU students had problem when the mission statement was proposed with "Nepal" word in it. I will bring this up in upcoming meeting.. Anybody else have suggestions.. -Puru

Actually, TP, you're wrong--unless you mean to make an ungrammatical joke about getting visas ("Bringing Nepali to Mainstream America"). The way they have it reads fine to me, and I'm a native speaker. Grammatically, they're using "Nepal" in the same way they're using "Mainstream America." There might be better ways to phrase the same idea, but the way they have it is by no means "stupid."

All these sites are not worth a dime. There is nothing there that isn't already here in this site. At least there is activity here in this site. those sites look like graveyards compare to this.

Why are some people on this site so upset by a few other Nepalis putting up a websites for students at their universities? What's the big deal? So what if they're not perfect yet. So what if they don't even put anything else on those sites, ever!!! A few weeks ago, on this very GBNC site, there was a quote of the day that I loved so much I printed out. I don't have it right here, but it was something to the effect of, if you wait until what you've done is perfect enough to show it to the world, nothing will ever get accomplished. Reetu and whoever else is criticizing those other sites as imperfect: I've noticed that you don't exactly wait until your own grammar and ideas are brilliantly developed before you post to kurakani. Why in the world are you criticizing other people for making sites that aren't as "exciting" yet as this one? Maybe that's not even their goal. Maybe they're just doing an educational project for their own benefit. Maybe they're just doing something "quick and dirty" in between classes and so on, and plan on getting something else up eventually, if they ever have time. Who knows? At least they're doing something besides criticizing other people. Frankly, I think every organization of Nepali students in the US, UK, Australia and Nepal should put up a Web site--even if there's not a darned thing on it. At the very least, if a single new student to those universities pulls up those Web sites and is able to find an apartment by contacting somebody on it, it's worth it. Three cheers for people who have the energy, ambition, and community concern to do something like that ... no matter how imperfect in the eyes of their critics!!!

Reetu Ji, I posted GMU-NSA website URL to let eveyone know about NSA and get feedback from fellow Nepalese and friends on this site....Why would I be popular by doing this and who you are to tell me to go somewhere else...?? OK. OK. others...we quickly put together the site so that people can have some information about us on-line..it is not pretty or interactive yet...give us some time.. I will let you all know when we have better user interface and discussion board going..I don't think a student site with maximum of 20-25 user would need anything more than these features unless we want to make NSA site to be local DC Nepalese community site.. Thank you Sally for encouragements. -Puru

Hello Guys, First, I just wanted to let you know that the NSA has done a great job and expects constructive criticism from you all but not the negative comments. Second, if you want the respect from others, learn to be respective to others too. Third, this is just a informative site and provides information to those people who need help in many ways to begin the network in nepali communities, such as new students, transfer students coming from Nepal, internships opportunities in the areas, hosting a cultural events, programs, housings, and many others. I hope you all get it and learn to be nice to others. thanks
