What is the benefit of sending money through these online companies such as thamel.com and sendmoneytonepal.com. I send money once in a while just as gifts and I send them through banks. They are reliable and they charge a flat rate, regardless of the amount sent, of about USD 35. Unless you are sending small amount, I do not see any advantage of sending money through these online money transfer companies. I do like to see these online outfits run by fellow Nepali succeed in big say. But unless there is a clear advantage in using their services over banks, I wonder therse online outfits will not gain big market share of money transfer to Nepal. Is the only reason these outfits are in business is "fellow Nepali helping anohter fellow Nepali's business" how much can they grow or succeed. That is not a strong business model for success. I would like the owners of these outfits to shed some lights on what benefit do they provide over money transfer through traditional banks. I also would like to hear from people who have used these online services about their reason for using the service and the experience they had. Thanks pravin

Pravin, you have put forth an excellent opportunity for your peers to explain the principle of their business. I too, would like to hear why I should use these online transaction over conventional banks. Using these businesses for a sole reason that they are run by other fellow nepalese is troublesome.

Heard that these sendmoney2nepal and thamel.com are big money launderer's. heard that they were investigated by the government for laundering. they probably will give you a better deal than sending money via bank. Dollar rates are always higher in the black market.

I don't think they are involved in any money laundering activities. But that is not the issue here. The issue is about business sense: what is the benefit of using these services over similar services provided by conventional banks: reliability, speed, cost effectiveness etc. Let's hear from both sides: service providers and those who have received the services in the past. This is honest an enquiry; I'm not trying to denegrate the service providers in any way. Pravin.
