As asst secratary Christina Rocca (Nepali sounding surname,Rokka huh?)concludes her Nepal visit, one issue conspicuously disappears from her agenda. Just as kantipuronline folks noted, president Bush seems to have forgotten the languishing issue of Bhutanese refugees in Nepal and their right to return to their motherland. In the aftermath of Rwanda genocide report, UN general secretary released on UN report on the genocide, and promised that UN will work for preventing such genocide in the future. However, the tepid response on the plight of Bhutanese refugees in Nepal shows that the international community doesn't care a dime unless a substantial bloodbath is involved in the issue. We talk about Maoist issue in Nepal. The reality is Maoist issue can't and shouldn't eclipse the Bhutanese refugee issue. The US cuddling of India may not be conducive to the solution of this issue as long as Indian haughtiness persists. Also, it is sad to note that while 8 Nepalese soldiers shed their blood to help maintain territorial integrity of India in Kargil, the ever ingrate Indian government feels no obligation to help Nepal solve her outstanding issue with Bhutan.
