Who is organizing this party? NYNYC?

no, this not an NYNYC organized progam. Thsi one is done by some really good hearted Nepalis, not that there are any not good hearted Nepalis, who want to bring our culture and songs way up front. Nabin Bhattarai didn't get to show his talents to the fullest when he came to NY the last time. He had to share the stage with many other famous artists. Now is the time he will be able to give you all he's got. Sapana Shree is coming here too... and what a pleasure it will be to see Saranga dance her heart out. Karma band is a band in itself... with playing their own songs, they will be assisting other singers. SO, if you have any energy left, sprite to share with, after all the Nepali New Year's parties, this is the place to be.

Surahi is the name of a cd that came out in the beginning of this year. Artists singing on that album were Sukmit Gurung, Sapana Pariyar, Lochan Bhattarai, Manila Sotang, Yash Kumar and Pabitra Subbah. All songs were written and produced by a Nepali New Yorker, Anita Thapa. After naming the album Surahi, she wanted to use it for any of her future undertakings in putting out shows highlighting Nepali artists. Inviting these artists from Nepal surely is costly. With the admission of Forty dollars can only go so much in recouping the expenses alone. Her intention is not to make money at all - just to promote Nepali artists in the US and giving a wholesome entertainment to all who come to the show. Just to give you an example - the hall at 630 Second Ave alone is $7,000. Now add the cost of decoration, food, preparation.... So, your forty dollars contribution will be greatly appreciated and your enjoyment is guranteed... Karma Band is a group of Nepali from Texas. They rocked at Koseli night in Dallas and are sure to do so here in New York also. The band will play with Nabin Bhattarai and others. BTW, gate will open at 7:30 p.m.

Having very recently cultivated a taste in homegrown tarunis, wouldn't mind throwing 40 bucks as long as there are enough aesthetically pleasing, homegrown tarunis around, re kya! :) [Joining the smiley-abusing brigade] But, gotta finish papers too; khoi timing namilyaa jasto chha. Next time; yaso summer maa organize garaun na ssNY bro/sis.

Lalupate - I'm not an organizer. Just a sympathizer. But your point is well taken and the organizer surely checks this site, so she'll know what you're saying. One thing she mentioned to me for organizing this now is to coincide with the new year. So, bring that new year's spirit and come join the fun. Of course, your papers are very important - so do them now. pnizzo - I thought the same thing when the name Karma band was mentioned first. I was ready to light a 'hukka' and sing the song with them. "If I brought Karma band from Nepal, I may have to sell my store too", is what Anu said. Guess it gets very expensive.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to give local band a chance ? I heard that the band "String" from NY was suppose to play too but had to cancel due to some indiferences with the organiser. what say you SSnY ??

The band "String" is very near and dear to me. Pasang, Karma, Pawan and Raju are like my brothers (actually one of them is my nephew). Met two of the members last weekend and they told me that they were supposed to play but are not. Didn't get into detail. So, really, I'm in dark as you are. I take it as a blessing in disguise for Strings' not playing - for both them and us, audiences. Audiences will kind of get tired for having to go through different bands and fixing the set up when the new one comes, making us all sit and look at the closed curtain for an eternity, it seems. For Strings, it is a chance to hone their skills even more and when they actually perform on another venue, it will be freash - as oppoesed to "that same band from the Nepali Sanjh". Just my two cents.

A very poor turnout though. For a hall that can accomodate 500-600 people , the turnout was pathetic. Probably Sonika was dead drunk(as always), so she enjoyed it...
