An open letter to GBNC: I think if the president and executive members are tuning in to this site then they must be aware there is a dissatisfaction broiling concerning GBNC and its activities or rather inactivity. I really don’t know the profile of its members but my guess is most of them are holding a full time job and others full time student and working at the same time. From the dawn of time we have the same complain and same counter argument. What is GBNC doing? And the answers being “we are not paid to do this and we are all busy. So, be happy we have managed to do whatever we managed to do.” Just as we cannot excuse the lack of participation of the nepali community of boston area it is unacceptable to hear that the executive members are not paid and it is purely voluntary so we should be happy for what we have. Why do people volunteer? For the passion of their belief, to act, to make a difference. Well, agreed the council is voted but, everybody knows the seriousness of this “voting” process. So if one chooses to volunteer we expect them to fulfill the promise. People have certain expectation. For some people it is the yearly party. The Dashain party, the summer barbecue, or the new year party. But, personally I wish GBNC was more active in community interaction, development in some way. I think GBNC has become synonymous to Dashain Party. Is this what the GBNC wants to be known for? Let’s not have party for one year. Let’s focus on some larger goals and see how much it would be fulfilled. Let’s have a discussion session, and encourage people to participate. Publicize the meeting and agenda. Let’s see how many participate and how many want to be involved. Then we will really know how serious people are keeping GBNC ALIVE or they are just living for khasi ko masu. If people don’t come to these discussion sessions then message is clear. If people still want to be bali ko boka then I for one cannot have sympathy for the people who live for non existent cause. I personally can party anywhere.

Listen Lady !!!!! I don't know what discussion you are talking about but judging from past experience it is not going to work. It was obvious from the ANA discussions. You can discuss all you want but actions speak louder than words. You would be bored to death with these old morons telling us what to do. Lets be practical do you think someone holding a full time job be interested in a discussion after a days work. Or would she rather go for some entertainment and dinner ???? Regards to the matter of being active, well its a matter of choice. If you choose to be in the comittee then you bet your ass you've got to be on top of things. In the early days there were no such place where people could voice their opinions. But now we have this medium we are using. So that the higher ups can hear what the PEOPLE have to say. Its is excellent that they are at least listening and reacting to it. I personally think its a welcome change. I for one would not want you(Namita) to be the president as Ms preeti would want. The reason being your statement,"If people still want to be bali ko boka then I for one cannot have sympathy for the people who live for non existent cause. I personally can party anywhere." Its just pure ignorance in your part. If you think you can party anywhere then why are you even talking over here. You talk as if you are above the Nepali community. Even if we are lazy, good, bad, or ugly, we are still Nepali. We should not discriminate or leave anyone behind.

I definitely understand what boka is trying to say. it is very hard to please everyone especially when the nepali population is growing so rapidly. i am glad that gbnc is at least trying to do their best keeping in mind as namita said that they are either full time students or are working full time. in the past, gbnc had held discussions but people simply did not show up so it is clear that only a few amount of neaplis want to attend those discussions, or hear a guest speaker give his/her talk. I personally like going to gbnc's parties because i get to meet people whom i have not seen for quite some time. because of our hectic schedules, we often miss out on chatting with our friends or people we know, so i think the parties are a good way to relax and just enjoy yourself with friends and families. at the end i would like to commend the members of gbnc for doing what they are doing because it takes a lot of guts, and strengths to run a voluntary organization. keep it up.....

It could very well degenerate into a virtual feast fight if I try to answer some of the pure speculation that Bokaji has levelled against me but I am going to try anyway. Fear of criticism has not stopped me before and I don’t think I will stop now. First of all Preeti and Naray thank you very much. I won’t say no and I won’t say yes yet. Let’s all gather and discuss first. THAT was the main point of my posting. What do people want? If one of my sentences has made Bokaji’s sensibility rattled then I would like to urge you to read again not pick one sentence and throw that back at me. What I am saying is (this was my personal view, we can take a poll if you like) let’s have a clear statement from GBNC. If the majority people is satisified with all the party then so be it. But is this what GBNC Wants to do year after year after year? Should not there be larger goals? Why do you think, bokaji I was putting down nepali? If I made a statement like “I can party anywhere” why do you immediately think I am above Nepali community. It is just like if somebody says he/she is Europe then it immediately becomes a ‘jatiya’ dispute. Why are your nerves so raw? I just would like you to go over and read again what I read. And if you still think the whole point of my last posting was to bash Nepali then what can I say?

A major problem with GBNC is that people love to talk but they usually back off when it comes to actually doing something. I'll give you an example. We (GBNC) need volunteers for the upcoming BBQ. So, inspired by the comments from a discussion participant (check out the thread: picnic), I put up a Help posting on this site. Do you want to know how many responses I got? One. That's it. One. And even that person is a friend of mine. I could have just as easily picked up the phone and requested her for her help personally. I think when one visits this site, s/he gets the impression that there are many people who are willing to volunteer, itching to help. That is not the case. People for some reason just don’t help out. Maybe you guys/girls can prove me wrong. I would love it if you would. So, let’s start with this BBQ. Any volunteers? You can contact me at bik555@hotmail.com Bik GBNC Exec Member

Bik, you hit right on the nail. As they say in Nepal, namachine ping ko saya jhatka! People love to talk the talk here, so much so that this site is now even being used for publishing personal emails and travel plans! When it comes to walking the walk, nobody is in sight!

Just to make the record straight, just to ward off some misconception: Bostonian, Have you volunteered? when? how? let's hear it. I for one said I would help with the newsletter and I delivered. I have a full time job, a house to take care of and a child. I would really like to hear your past help and future plan to help. If it is ongoing I would like to hear that too. So go right ahead, I am all ears. Maybe you want to be president. My vote might go to you. But first, you may have to come out of your 'burqua.' Are you ready yet?

hey Bostonian, you're quick to berate others for not walking the walk. That implies that YOU are walking the walk. Pray, teach us how to walk the walk and maybe we'll know how to.

What GBNC does it's fine. As a representative of Nepalese social community in Boston, GBNC has been doing fine in terms of social organization. It is not seen that what degree of its activity ought to be, but no one knows it. The fundamental problem of GBNC is to exist and represent for Nepalese people who live in Boston. Is there any one out there who can handle it effectively? I don't see anyone. Then, how can you say that GBNC has been inactive? I admire that it has not brought new issues and new programs, but it does not mean that GBNC and its executives are not doing for Nepalese community being into the organization. I am in favor of GBNC and its functions. Reetu...

Mrs namita!!! Let me let you know that you haven't rattled single hair of mine. I was just reading what you wrote. I don't think i was taking anything out of context. What GBNC wants Gbnc does. Its been that way from the start. If they want a momo party they will have a momo party, if they want a social function they will have one. You don't hear me complaing, I think they are doing fine other than a few delays on its annual functions. As for helping, everyone has helped the community whenever they can. If anyone wants to volunteer, that their choice. You cannot go on accusing people for not contributing. If someone has a job that requires 12 hrs a day, how the hell is that person going to volunteer.
