Roma Posted on 31-Jul-01 11:04 AM

Yes, I read it, interesting-it was a pretty long article about 4 pages but I read every word of it!
nepalien Posted on 31-Jul-01 11:36 AM

I read it too! I learned a bit about neplese history, well mostly pertaining
to the RANAS AND THE SHAHS.

THAT PARAS GUY LOOKS HOT BY THE WAY.

khaire Posted on 31-Jul-01 02:46 PM

so, what does the article say anyway? anyone? it would be greatly appreciated. now some of you don't go on lecturing me to 'just buy it.' well, i don't want to. just tell me in short what it says. i am curious.
NEPALIEN Posted on 01-Aug-01 10:37 AM

Khairey, the article's really good, it gives a brief description about
how the Ranas came to power and there's a little bit about the girl,
Devya Rana and how everyone was
telling her that theirs was a love affair that was doomed to fail,
UHH.... and it also provides a gruesome detail of the massacre from the eyewitness' point of views and according to the neurosurgeon who was summoned
to the scene, the Queen's head came apart. YUCK!
The article also talks a little bit about the Maoists and the country's so called democracy....blah...blah....
But the article's very informative and perhaps will convince those people
who were in denial about Dipendar's involvement in the palace massacre.

Hey kaire, you should read the article first hand it's very interesting,
even if not for the article purchase the magazine just for PARAS'
PICTURE. THAT GUY LOOKS HOT, I MEAN HOT!

CIAO!

Definitely the most comprehensive article written on the June 1st Massacre. As usual, the New Yorker does a fantastic job.

It is not available on line though.

Hey! Finally I read it. The book store was out of it. Went to the President's office (no not the US) and found it in his visitor's room! What a superb article, wouldn't you say? I guess That is why New Yorker is THE New Yorker, not Gorkha Patra. So, it is the same story all over again from Eve and Adam to Shakespeare: Love, Love-Denied, betrayl, revenge, infidelity, blood-line and a little bit of modernity : London educated elites, semi automatic and "black substance" you have a witche's brew. Drink it and you are all finished.

It was good to revisit the history once again (to not to forget)how Ranas plunder our national treasure and drag our country to the brink of absolute poverty. Shahas were bad, Ranas were worse, and the democratically chosen worms? The less you say about them the better it is. It was horrifying that a reported got shot because he had the nerve to say Dhirendra was a drug lord. How low can you go? It seems like there is no bottom for Nepali ruling class to sink. It just gets lower and lower.

Wll, here we are. Gyanendra is the king and Deuba is the prime minister. Will they pull the country out of this never-ending bottom less fligt down towards the extinction or they will be just one of them? 'Jun yogi aaye pani kanai chireko.'
