I am a young kid in Nepal and am going to US for undergrad education. I fear I may have HIV and this might obstruct me from getting the VISA. Is there any HIV tests to be done during the visa process? If yes, how can I omit that? I have to go to the US anyhow because I cant risk this in Nepal. Please help me. |

Victim ji, there are no such medical tests that you have to undergo to get the Amrikan visa. So you chill out on that. In fact visas for other countries like Australia, Canada and UK demands a thorough medical check up unlike for "Amrika." Having said that, I do agree with Monika ji that you ought to take care of your immediate health problems before dwelling into dreams of travelling abroad. Not that I want your test results to come +ve, but should it be so, it makes no sense wherever on the face of the earth you end of going. Cheers! Rajeev PS Yale Medical people are working 24/7 to work out a solution for this disease. I attended a elite talk-show a week ago that was at its best in terms of highliging what efforts being taken to curb this disease. Anyone interested to know shoot me a personal email. |

Victim, my question to you: how do you know or guess that you have HIV when you have not done any tests? Maybe you're frequent visitor of red light area or drug addict.. You cannot assume that you're suffered from AIDS, without doing any HIV tests. |

Qqest ji, nope I am not related to anyone with that name. But as I say this, I also would like to let you know that I know em as a fine scholar from Vanasthali Days when he happened to be a year senior to me ( early 90s SlC). I also know his elder brother who did not catch much of my imagination( to be honest) whose name is Rupak, doing his doctoral studies in Ohio. So long on that! Rajeev |

I am neither an addict nor a frequent red area visitor. However, about a year ago, I had sex with a girl who I knew as an addict( using needles). I was silly to have sex with her. I now am not feeling too well. I have frequent body pains and some rashes appear time after time. I have lost my apetite and there are other signs. It is not that I am sure I have HIV coz I have had sex that time only in my life and I used a condom but I am very afraid. U might think I am silly but this is such a serious issue that I am distressed. I have a very good future. I have been admitted to a good US college with full aid. I used to imagine that I could be a great addition to this society. My family and relatives see me as a saint, a really innocent person. I am not worried by HIV or any stupid virus. If I die tommorow, let it be.. I dont care. The only thing I am worried about is my family. I am sure my mom will commit suicide if I get the virus and she finds it out. The only way out for me is to go to the US and take the test. If i am positive, ill make some money, start antiretroviral therapy and hope for the best. If I never get to marry or have kids due to this, I dont care. But I cant let my parents know for the time being and the best way to do this is to move to the US. One of u said tests are done.. somebody else says they are not needed.. ke ho? please help me. If HIV tests are prescribed, is there a prescribed set of doctors by the embassy or any registered doctor can take the test. If anybody can take the test, I could always ask some doctor for mercy or give bribe ( even though i dont like to do so) if I am HIV so that they would manipulate the results. |

Victim, No, you don't need to submit any documents of medical records or tests when you go to get visa at the embassy or enter the U.S. However, most of the colleges in the US look for the records of missiles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine and so forth before you start your college. It may not be true for the college you are going to attend. Check their website. But I am pretty sure they won't have you do HIV test. When you go to the US, make sure you get the test done and prevent (Assuming that you are tested positive). |

thank you guys, I can sleep a deep sleep of releif till the day I get to US and then take the test. If I get positive then, Ill do what Ill do right then.. After all, you gotta live till you die. And if I get positive, dont worry.. I will have enough guilt on my head to be away from sex for the next seven times I might be reborn. |

hi victim2004!!! i'm sincerely very sorry about the state of mind you must be in, but hey... you dont know for SURE that you are HIV +ve... the body aches and the rashes might be due to some other, less severe, form of STD's. i dont think you ought to live like this in fear... get it checked... i could be nothing, or even if it is severe, its time you tell your parents.. why dont you get your symptoms checked at - www.webmd.com no one deserves to live with fear like that, not being sure whether you are infected with the virus or not. please do get it checked... make it your first priority!!! good luck! *porcelina |

Victim2004, I dont think you need to worry about HIV testing for visa purposes. At least I didnt see any mention of such a requirement in the US embassy website. Here's the link if you havent looked already. - http://www.south-asia.com/USA/consmain2.html Having said that, I think you should have an HIV test done as soon as you arrive in the US. It might just be that you are being paranoid about the whole thing. Sometimes when you're overly worried about something, its very easy to convince yourself of the worst possible scenario. Every little sign or symptom, however miniscule, seem to point towards the object of your paranoia. To tell you the truth, the symptoms you've described sound to me like those of another STD, not AIDS. But dont take me up on it - I am not a medical professional by any means. I suggest that you buy health insurance from your school and schedule an appointment at the nearest clinic right away. Doctor-patient privileges in the US ensure that your medical history will not be divulged to anyone without your approval, so you dont need to worry about anyone else finding out. Hope things work out for you. JD |

What? im surprised that none of you people had to take the health test. when i had to leave nepal, 4 1/2 years ago, i had to test for hepatits A, B, HIV, and other few blood tests. And the report was required to be turned in at the embassy, before getting visa. The policies must have changed by now, if most of the people here didn't have to take blood tests. |

Victim Since you said you used condom, chances are that you don't have anything at all. Also Since you have gotten full aid fom college embassy people will not bother going in depths with you about your bank or criminal or health records. |
