BBC (Bau Binako Chhoro - check the link below) ko latest victim is my sister in Kathmandu. According to my sister, a young guy came to our house on March 22 around 1 o’clock in the afternoon. After verifying all information about our family he introduced himself as junior Baadal from Gorkha who is working for the Maoists. He sent other members upstairs to their rooms and told my sister not to be worried. He informed her that their party has sent him to collect Rs. 300,000 from our family. He threatened her saying he is well equipped and also not to report the case to police/army. After repeated requests from my sister he gave 3 days to collect all the money and forcefully took her phone number.

Currently there is no male member present in our house. My sister contacted us here in the US as to what to do. She was crying and her voice was shaking. We were in shock and ended the call quickly to gather ourselves. A couple of months ago, a similar incident have occurred when our house was surrounded by 25/30 armed government forces at 4:00 in the morning. They searched our house for 2 hours and finally left saying it was a random check. My sister informed us that it was scary moment to watch them search the house. Not to mention the mess they created for her. Anyway, we calmed down thinking they are doing their job and we had nothing to hide.

Because of this new incident, we were very concerned about her safety. After all there is no law and order in the country. At a time when police and army are running after their own lives, we decided to negotiate with the Maoists. We tried from various sources to verify whether they are sakkali Maobadi or not. We think that they are nakkali Maobadi, but still don’t want to take any chances. We are ready to pay any price to leave this behind us, but the god damn price to too high. How the hell I can pay that kind of money when I’m making a minimum wage and supporting other family members? This is ridiculous! And yet, I’m not sure if I should continue complaining because thousands of our brothers and sisters have lost everything because of this war.

The so called Maoist guy kept on calling my sister a couple of times a day for status. As promised, a different person showed up at our home today. According to my sister, he came with a nice looking receipt that has picture of five communist leaders Mao, Lenin, etc. Since she could not manage to collect all the money, the guy gave her until Friday, April 1, 2004. I wish the guy is celebrating April fool’s day because this is a very painful experience that we are having.

I just wanted to share this with all sajhaites. Please drop some suggestions/ideas/tips as how to deal with those people.

Please read a similar story in janastha. The Maoist guys nick name is BBC – Bau Binako Chhoro :). That name made may day! I’m pretty sure that those missing guys are coming to my house on Friday. But, hey..

Hey Mitra.. You are right, it wouldnt be fair enough to complain as the whole country is suffering through the same stuff. Similar incidents have been taken place through out Nepal. My family also had been in such a dilemna long time back. But my dad and brother were there. I can imagine what your sister might be going through.
Well, theresnt anything much one can do. There was a similar case in Jhapa. Maoists (sakkali nakkali not at that time) visited principal of Kankai School for money. The principal thought they were nakkali, and complained the police. The police were successful to capture them. Unfortunately they were the sakkalis. Now principal and his family are away from Nepal trying to save their lives. I am not sure about the recent development.
The only thying I could say is be strong and support your sister for every step she takes. Good Luck, do keep us informed.

bardan ji,
If I had a choice, I would never ever support such act. however, my sister's safety is the primary concern now.
