I am a student here at columbia college. I desperately need a work off campus. I dont have a work permit. SO anyone know wher they are hiring illegal immeigrants like me? I dont mind moving out of my state (Missouri, Columbia) or I can also work with a little low wage. PLease I really need help. I heard there are some jobs in Maryland.

Dhoti ko Gas Station ma kaam garne ho..They pay under the table..I have been working in a Gas Station for 9 years..never have any problem with INS or IRS..Try some Gas Station owned by Dhotis or Pakistani Bhai Logs..Or you can try Indian Restaurants too..They even hook you up green card if you work your tail off...Just Kidding..
Listen..You can apply for a work permit stating that you are facing a financial hardship. You have to talk to your International Advisor(IA) in school and he surely will help you out. There are certain forms you have to fill out and it has to be endorsed by your IA and mail it to the INS (now BCIS).
Summer is round the corner so do not waste the time. Good Luck

Also start using the terms Unauthorized Workers rather than illegal immigrants. Since you are a student, I assume you have F-1. So, you are legal.

go to ocean city, maryland dude. You gonna get lots of jobs over there in this summer. Besides that you will feel like u're in nepal. 3 out of 10 ppl u find will be nepalese over there in summer... Dont waste time..

cool_keta, while u r in the campus, try Workrite Inc.
For the summer time, go to Ocean City or there is a park in Colorado too, I think its called Esthers (wrong spelling!). Try those places.
If you don't have a car, workrite is usless, so try the Indian Restuarant, there are two of them in downtown both near from your college, or try the Chinese, Vietnamese, or other Asian restaurents. Apply in the Asian grocery stores too.
You have only a month of college left for this semester, but do try in the college's dining hall too. They readily employ students workers.

Well, the best thing would be to apply for Economic Hardship. I had applied last year, this year as well. When you apply ask your International Students Advisor to add the Expediate form with your application. That you can get your EAD within three weeks. Also, if you need documents for that, lemme know. Lemme know your city as well..? I assume its Chicago.

The problem with applying econimic hardship is that your F1 status gets converted to J1 or so I was told. Did anyone have to go through this? This is supposed to be the new rule.
Oh well, I don't know much about these things.

what is EAD ? Also, if I go to Maryland, Ocean city, is it hard to find a room partner to share room for 3 months of summer? It would be really helpful if i knew somebody from there. Anyone planning to go to maryland by the way?

OC is a risk. You find a job , but sometimes you don't and spend days roaming on the expensive streets of OC maryland.. btw, do they not ask for permit or something in OC or something?? becareful hai, Nepaliangel didi lay INS layee bhanee dinchu bhanten pahila pahila..

also, i've heard the rumors that Homeland security can pull out all your illegal works if you ever apply for permananet residency in future or even H1. I head that before they ddin't share the data base (INS and IRS), so you could get away using your SS , but now they do ray ... k ho khas kura?? bhana bhana sathi haru.. mero pani euta cousin layee kam no khojee bha chaina...

Dyamn Bro, yeah you are right. BCIS is now capable of tracking everyone who works on F-1. I know an Italian friend who had to go through troubles. Well, Cool_Keta, I would suggest you not work illegal on SS. If you get illegal work on cash you might consider that.
Meera, I dont think it gets converted to J-1. Coz, Ive had the EAD since April last year and just received my renewed one today. Its safer and better to work under EAD, you can work anywhere.

If you're thinking of working without work-authorization during the summer, I hear Ocean City, Maryland is a pretty good place. Luckily, I never had to work off-campus to pay for college, but I have several Nepali friends who have worked in Ocean City and will probably go back this summer. The trick to getting a good job there is to start early - around May or early June. You'll find plenty of amusement parks, fast food restaurants, pizza stores, grocery stores, and even hotels that will hire people without asking for formal documentation. Dyamn Bro.. regarding my Italian friend, he was on F-1 visa and doing his internship at Fermi National Lab (US DoE). When you are doing an internship, you register with the college as well to maintain your full time status. He did all the formalities from his side, but his college forgot to inform INS and register him to maintian his status. He started working. And one fine morning, after a couple of weeks, INS called him asking on what basis he was working..?? The officers commented - though there was some confusions but you are working illegal in this nation. Be glad that you are not from middle eastern countries - else you would have been in your country by now. Now just go back to school and maintain your F-1 status.
Well, thas what happened with him. So, I guess these days the INS/BCIS keep track of all the students who are working under SS. So, why take a risk and be deported or go through unnecessary hassles.
Ekar your are true that how can anyone survive with so much expenses. It doesnt harm to get a work permit from INS through Economic Harsdhip and work legally.

Ekar,its not what all do, it's what you should do. I'm worried for this bhai.. bekar ma pachi green card/h1 bhayana bhanay tenson bhayana.. i live in a small town rigiht now, but when i was in a big cities, i saw lots of bhais working outside with /without permit using thier social security number. things have changed now.. now bcis keeps track ...so just be careful..

WELL IN THAT CASE...I SHOULD SAY YOU SHOULD NOT WORK AT ALL WITHOUT WORK PERMIT. BECAUSE IF YOUR WORK UNDER TABLE THEN ALSO IT IS ILLEGAL AND IF INS FINDS OUT THEN YOU WOULD BE DEPORTED AND THAT IS DEFINETE. THE OTHER THING I HAVE LEARNED SO FAR IS IF U ARE IN UNITED STATES AND WORKING THEN YOUR SHOULD PAY TAX AND WORKING UNDERTABLE MEANS U ARE NOT PAYING TAX-SO THAT MEANS U ARE IN TROUBLE WITH INS AND IRS. THE INS AND IRS HASN'T TRACK MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WORKING UNDERTABLE AND USING SSN SO I DON'T THINK NOW THEY WILL BE ABLE TOO..AND IF THEY WILL THEN THERE WON'T MANY PEOPLE WORKING IN LOW PAYING JOBS.
ANYWAYS THIS IS MY THOUGHT ONLY- I HAVE NO INTENTION TO RUIN THE NEW KIDS LIFE GIVING MY THEORY AND THE THINGS I LEARNED DEALING WITH INS AND KNOWING MORE THAN 30 PEOPLE WHO ARE BASICALLY NOT ALLOWED TO WORK IN US WITHOUT WORK AUTHORIZATION.

I am not sure whether this implies to big city only.
I guess that's why there are many nepali students moving to bigger cities just to work wherever they feel like or should say work freedom and not just work for dhotis or gas station.
