yo all, check it out. Google is coming up with their own version of email: Gmail. Gmail is still in beta version and when it comes out, you will have 1GB of space. Holy #$%&, 1000MB. Hotmail is offering only 2MB and yahoo offers only 4MB. You will have plenty of space for all the email you will ever get in your life. May be you can pass your email address to your kids (it's sort of like family property since there is tons of space available). Anyhow, go to https://gmail.google.com/ for more information. What do you guys think about it? Peace Luckydude |

Week-old news. But the launch is still a few weeks/months away. Will be a major day when the launch happens. Come to think of it, e-mail is the most used application online. Search is number two. If Google can corner both, Google is King. I can imagine Hotmail and Yahoo jacking up their space offering as well. Hotmail 100 MB. Yahoo 200 MB. Maybe. |

Google is already King. The name, Google, has become a verb now. It certainly a good news, but they are gonna have to find a lot of sponsors to support everything. That's a very big step in the history of the Internet. Besides, I am tired of seeing the red line on my hotmail warning me that I am running out of the space......... Luckydude |

Even with 1000 MB, you will still need to delete some messages at some point, right? |

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3602745.stm Internet search engine Google's plans for a free email service have come under fire from privacy campaigners. Google is devising Gmail as a rival to Microsoft's Hotmail and to Yahoo! Privacy campaigners have objected to plans to send users adverts linked to the content of messages, and to the permanent storage of email. Campaign group Privacy International has filed a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner, Reuters news agency reported. The Information Commissioner's job is to make sure organisations comply with a web of laws safeguarding privacy and freedom of information. Online snooping? Privacy International objects to Google's plans to send users links to advertising based on a computer scan of their correspondence, and presumed interests. At present, users of Google's internet search engine receive advertisements for commercial sites linked to their search topic arranged down the right-hand side of their screens. RIVALS COMPARED Gmail Free 1,000 megabytes (MB) storage No sorting or deleting needed No pop-ups and banners Spam filter and virus scan MSN Hotmail Free 2 MB storage Up to 100MB costs $59.95 a year Spam filter and virus scan Yahoo Free 4 MB storage Up to 100MB costs $49.79 a year Spam filter and virus scan Gmail would use similar technology to scan emails and offer advertisements. Google says the content of users' email would remain private because the process would be fully automated. "No humans read your emails to target the ads," Google's web site says. But Simon Davies, director of Privacy International has called the proposed system "a vast violation of European law". Too much of a good thing? Gmail's proposed message storage systems are also angering privacy campaigners. Google has promoted free storage for each user of the equivalent of 500,000 pages of email among Gmail's benefits. Google says this will enable users to retrieve vast amounts of old emails, and that it will back this up with superior spam filtering. However, its terms of use acknowledge that "residual copies of email may remain on our systems, even after you have deleted them from your mailbox or after the termination of your account". "If a person deletes an email, he should be confident that email is actually deleted," Bits of Freedom founder Maurice Westerling said. Google has a commanding lead in the global internet search engine market, although its market share has shrunk sharply during the past month after Yahoo stopped using Google technology to power its searches. Google is privately-owned, but expected to float on the stock market later this year, a deal that could value Google at up to $25bn (£14.7bn) - slightly more than listed online retailer Amazon. The California-based company was founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. |

go to http://gmail.google.com and enter the email address you are currently using to stay updated with the gmail news. I am really excited because this thing is going be one of the historic moments in the computer technology field and we are around to witness it. Google hasn't released Gmail yet. It's still in beta version. It will come out pretty soon though. One thing I like about Gmail (apart from the 1GB of space) is that there are no pop-up ads with your email however you will have some relevant text ads on the right side of google search result page. That's how they are pay for all the server spaces and bandwidth and so on. Yo computer geeks, interested in upcoming software? I got go www.betanews.com for latest releases. Check the site out, it's work spending some time. Have fun..... Luckydude |
