Latest news from Nepalnews--

"Hundreds of party cadres, human rights activists and senior leaders of the agitating parties including CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, NC leader Ramchandra Poudel, Shailaja Acharya among others were arrested Friday afternoon when they staged anti-regression rallies defying the Governments indefinite ban on political demonstrations in Kathmandu."

Addressing the media at 4:00 pm in a room at Durga Hotel, Koirala said the agitation was a success. “The Government is scared of the grand participation from the public in the protest rally. The protests will continue tomorrow despite the Government's ban,” Koirala said.

“I will attend tomorrow’s rally and I request you (all) to participate in it,” he added. Referring to the government’s recent attitude and decisions Koirala said, “Now I see no difference between the conduct of the Maoists and that of the government.”

>>Girija babu: I see no difference between the conduct of the Maoists and that of your anti-regression rallies.

Maoshits, in the countryside, partyshits in the cities , n monarchshits on the run, no one trying to be democratic, looking for yet another 12 years to fill em up n rip us down.

But the ones who fled the country n r still blaming the country just coz there is no possibility now r the most celf centered n damn ganaune bull shits.....they r nothing more than opportunshits.
meethshrestha Posted on 09-Apr-04 08:24 AM

Dear All
I hope i understand ur feelings, definelty the politicians have done no good to people neither to country. Nor have the Monarch did any
But u can not only deny the right to people only because those leading were wrong. com'n be grown up and think rational. when u do some sin u don't think that there is God
and then how can u think that the king is a avatar of GOd by the way tell me how many Godly act has been done by the Constituional monarch. Further The political parties definelty most rather all of the are just as bad as anyhting and abt maoist don't talk abt them they don't want to even hear just bad comment abt them.
So i think all are bad then what should we do. Let us think this is time when every common citizen is just ruthless abt anything, just does not care abt anyone. and they are comming to street sincerly they are there in not physically then with there emotion they are there respect them and let them an opertunity to use there fundamental right.
This is the time when destiny is testing us. It does take test if u pass we can dream for future if not than u have to take what remain there (if that also remains).
so frn don't go irational don't be biased but think for everyone not being a Bheda as the learned person reffered us as. let us come out of it.
My Best good wishes to my MotherLand Nepal Let us make it a peace, proporous nation .

Rastafaria,

Good blow to short.sighted, shallow minded frustrations !
Hellbound Posted on 09-Apr-04 10:16 AM

"Politics is a dirty game!!" I would not say politics literally is a dirty game, but the practitioners of politics are --for sure. Nobody else than our Nepalese brothers know how dirty and how sickening it can be. The cynical definition of politics can be explicitly illustrated in the context of Nepal, where agitating leaders are striving for power, with no solid goals.

Today their solidarity is targeted to the king; tomorrow we won’t be astounded to see the same leaders fighting and feuding against each other. In other words, If Girija becomes prime minister tomorrow, Madhav Kumar seeks for new allies to oust Girija’s regime. Probably, Sher Bahadur of the break-away Nepali Congress might seek some allies to claim his right to be re-appointed as prime minister as well. The question here is: will they ever be able to set an environment of serenity in Nepal? They might be able to bring CPN-Maoists for a talk, they might be able to ceasefire for a spur of moment, but will they ever solve their long list of demands? I heard it somewhere that the agitation leaders are trying to bring the CPN-Maoist as a new-partner in their anti-regression movement. Now think how dirty a the wacko politicians can be…..
jay_sambho Posted on 09-Apr-04 11:09 AM

Democracy cant be bad, its the people who are bad, and the leaders are chosen from the people. GP, madhav and others post-democracy leaders could have done much much better. I remember Madhav and his comrades calling a three day bandh because GP was in power. The pamphlet of bandh had this slogan "Tin din nepal bandh bhanda badhi haani ek din euta bhrasta byakti pradhan mantri ko kurchi ma basda hunchha". Now where they both are? Back on the road again.

We the younger generation who are in Nepal have learned our lessons very well. Rome was not built in a day. Those who say Rome can be built in a day; Gyanenmdra or Prachanda, we know you both are misleading us. We dont trust the parties, we know royalists or maoists wayleading masses. But we do believe in democracy. The more babal we have, the sooner we are going to have a better democracy. So Thapas, please keep on charging battons, Shahs, keep on dancing, we nepalis will keep on fighting.

Jay Sambho,

"its the people who are bad, and the leaders are chosen from the people."
Nice humor... hehe!!

How about this... Democracy is good, but it's people who are bad, and the leaders who lie to people...:-)

Yes it is them Leaders who them is nice. It is I and I who is bad. It is da biraders who lied and selected them peopal.

I likes them picchures above. This is them what it takes to get realizasion and one day them peopal who is on da ground getting beaten gonna get up and with them realisation of what kinds of peepal them ordering this on da both side.

I not want to see that time come but it look like it is inevtiable. Because them type of peopal who been being leaders in every side, maoist, CPM, Royalist, Congress looks like da same stock of peopal still trying to deceieve I and I, making I and I kill and beat my own biraders. I is warn you peopal beforehand.

If these peopal was so concerned about da country and I and I them would not do this. All them is concerned about is their pockets and mansions. One day da biraders come and burn them down. That time dont be blaming I and I.

Ouchhh !

is that for real ?
czar Posted on 10-Apr-04 10:20 PM

That picture of the youth being beaten is as real as it can get.

A friend of mine emailed it to me and I was told it was taken sometime on April 3/4, 2004 courtesy of Nick Dawson.

Fourteen years ago, I narrowly escaped a similar fate at the Ratna Park/ Baghbazaar intersection near the gas station there. That day I had come to a building nearby to attend to something. As the morning progressed, the the CDO Karyalaya had been set ablaze and rampaging crowds had forced the cops to retreat. People were milling around, and if I recollect correctly, a few cops had been thoroughly beaten up then placed on a hand cart that was being pushed around Durbar Marg. Mid morning I decided to take a walk to evaluate the situation and the lot pushing the hand cart with bruised policemen. I then retraced my steps towards Baghbazaar. On hour later, the cops had regrouped, and with reinforcements, came back with a renewed vengeance to drive the crowds back from the now charred CDO office.

The stone throwing, heckling and jeering crowd had been pushed back east across the intersection and were gathered on the Baghbazaar side of the road. Many youths, earlier evicted from the Tri Chandra campus area, had joined the crowd and, together, they fired a steady barrage of rocks and bricks at the cops. Who responded with many rounds of tear gas. Those shells landed in the vicinity of the gas station and the sidewalks, and soon the acrid fumes drifted skywards and in through the windows. It was more than we could stand, so we descended to street level.

No sooner had I got there then another several tear gas shells were fired in the direction of the crowd, with one landing a few feet from me. Someone nearby picked it up and threw it back at the cops. Next thing I saw, the policemen holding rifles were on one knee assuming the firing position with guns aimed towards where I was standing. And a group of fifteen or so cops with sticks charged my way. We ran, helter skelter eastwards, with the cops breathing down our necks, just yard behind us. That’s when the crowds I was running towards came forward with bricks and charged at the cops. The policemen retreated. I called it quits and headed back home. That day ended when the army opened fire with live rounds and killed dozens in front of Narayanhity.

Yes, those pictures above are real.
