In 1986, the world was shocked by the worst nuclear accident in history--at Chernobyl, in Ukraine. Nearly the entire population for miles around was evacuated. A motorcyclist named Elena has documented this industrial devastation, in a Web site appropriately entitled Ghost Town. http://www.angelfire.com/extreme4/kiddofspeed/ This Ghost Town is not like our old mining ghost towns here in Nevada. I don't know what the population of this city was, but it was a lot larger than the Truckee Meadows (Reno/Sparks). NO-BODY lives there. It takes about 15 min. to go thru the whole thing but well worth the time. I doubt if any of us had any idea just how devastating this nuclear tragedy was. The web site is getting a lot of hits so if you have trouble logging on just keep trying. You all really need to see this ...go to www.angelfire.com/extreme4/kiddofspeed/ enjoy reading this ! |
