Bhanja,

This thread belongs to a site like dpreview.com or photo.net but let me add my two cents since you brought up the issue. The defect you've heard about is probably one of the following (source: dpreview.com):

- Strong visible chromatic aberrations in backlit or reflections in bright sunny conditions
- Higher noise levels than the current crop of five megapixel digital cameras
- Potential hue shift on overexposed greens
- Difficult to get good macro performance without barrel distortion
- Annoying shutter release locking issue where you must wait before re-pressing

Don't be surprised at these defects in 828: EVERY digital camera has its defects, even the Canon 1Ds or the Nikon D2H. I think these "defects" are overhyped. For you and me, the Cybershot 828 or the Coolpix 8700 or the Powershot Pro 1 will do more than we want.

On a different note, I don't understand why would anyone willing to spend US $1000 on a digital camera buy one of these new 8mp cameras. They are nowhere as well-built as the Canon 10D or the Nikon D70. They have nowhere the flexibility of old-school film SLRs, which cost a fraction of these digital cameras. And they're as bulky as hell.

I'm more than happy with the picture quality, flexibility, and convenience of my Nikon N80 camera with 24-120mm VR lens and don't plan to switch to digital any time soon.
