Can you please give me input on a good yet, economical digital camera. I need it for taking pictures of art and reproducing art(paintings) from pictures. Also, is it better to buy it off the internet or the stores? Thank you, appreciate it! Sitara |

Sitara, I would suggest buying online. You could try http://www.nextag.com/Digital_Cameras~500001z0zBwzmainz5-htm and compare prices from different vendors and get the best deal. You could also save on sales tax in most cases. |

Dear Sitraji, It looks like you wanna have point-and-click. Being an avid fotographer myself, I have had come across quite a few digital cameras. But you will have to enlighten me a bit on what is your purpose of having it right now with options included for future years. I would suggest you to get Sony DSC Cybershots which is known to be preety true in bringing out right RGBs (color). I figure that you would be more interested in getting the right sense of color in the picutre(for your purpose), you may want to have something that outputs a shaper imgage. As per the pricing. Anything in the vicinity of lower couple of hundred bucks should be advisable. Uhi Rajeev, CT Amrika |

Sitara, How much are do you want to spend on it? That will largely determine what you should buy. For "taking pictures of art and reproducing art(paintings)," I think the Canon PowerShot 230 (~$250) would be a great choice. It's light for your pocket(rather, handbag), takes pictures that are large enough for you to make large prints, and is a Canon - meaning it's reliable. Another great camera is the Canon A80, which takes pictures that are slightly bigger than the S230, but costs ~$100 more, and a little heavier too. Of course, if you have the money, you can buy Bhanja's favorite camera - the Sony Cybershot 828, which will make a $1000 hole in your pocket and is bulky like hell, but takes amazing pictures. Mind you, more than 50 new digital cameras models are released every year so my suggestion is - pick one and stick to it! If you shop around too much, you might never get one! |

Hmm.Sony's latest DSC F828 is indeed the one of the best digital camera around. With its 4 colour sensor, it is able to capture vivid colour.Though it is not a DSLR, its function and quality picture sure attraction lots of people's attention. From what I read on the world wide web and what I experienced using this camera, it is indeed true that it is one of the best camera which is excellent almost in very "department".That is y I did not hesitate to spend my hard earned money on this camera and also on 4GB microdrive. Prior to obtaining F828, I was using DSC F717 which was also equally good. But I sold it off; I did not like the 4 way navugation button. Anyway ,Sitara, most of the digi cameras available on the market are good enough to get decent pictures.Ultimately, I believe the outcome of the photo is solely based on the skill of a photographer and the ligting condition. Actually Sitara u should go to the dpreview.com and use thier guide to show u which camera suits u based on your many prefernces. regards, Bhanja |

Thank you friends for replying and for all your inputs. Bhanja and Dr. Strangelove...I have been checking out the websites; lots of info there. Rauniyar and Tithomitho ji, I was thinking of spending around $300.00 to $400.00. That should suffice to get one hoina ta? I have been working on some paintings that I need to photograph and scan. The paintings are mainly Thangka miniatures that have a whole gradation of shades and tone. Also, Bhanja, I recall that you had posted some pics from Thailand, I had liked the quality. Would like to do the same in Indonesia; take tons of pictures. Thanks again! |
