I tried hard not to visit this bullshit thread, which makes no sense at all. hahhaha but look at you bunch of loosers. I am sure most of us find it nonsense full of bombasting word (like the girl's night out thread). Still we don't tell it here. Instead say good oh wow. One starts writing it and everybody follows the same. This is virtual world. Nobody knows what you are writing and who is writing. At least be real here. Don't have to be 'nice' but don't keep lying to yourself. Writing heavy heavy words is not literature. Thats what I was trying to say and make you all understand in Miss Sitara's thread. There is indeed some truth in what u wrote.
I have indeed observed that there are some Sajha members who like to boast there comand of English by using bombastic words and complicated sentences.There is no doubt indeed aboout their superior command of English over many of us.But I wonder sometime if they think b4 they write.I mean if they were to write in a complicated English not many of the Sajha members would really understand what he or she is writing about.So what is the use of posting to the thread if he/she wnats to convey her idea about certain subject.
This thought has crossed my mind many times; Are they trying to show off.I hope not
Please take note Mss/Mr English, we write to b understood.

Bhanja, why would you want to second-guess yourself. You do have fluency in English. You are right in saying "Language is to be understood" but it is also used for self expression.
Anyways, thanks for your advice in camera. Although some of the camera jargon goes beyond my normal vocabulary range.... I did manage to understand the help you were giving me. And yes, I did learn a lot! As someone said, "Ignorance is not the lack of knowledge, but the unwillingness to learn!"

Evevry evening without when I am not not working, I would do 200 sits and go running after that I would doanother 200 more sit up followed by 900 crunches.Meanwhile most of my friends are actually planning to chill out at some bars.
It is not that I can't afford.I in fact earn more than most of my friends.
I think I will stop now as now my thoughts are jumbled up.I just got up and am preparing to go for work ( it is 6.48am).

Becuase I know you are pretty talented(in your photo-shop) yourself to poison vomit on those who are talented. Ash, don't be reluctant to post next time. I think the poem's great. it's really creative. And people, there is no tbombasting words. Now, i ctiticized sitara ji's postings too, but i wasn't being rude or anything. What you guys are doing is simplly being rude and making fool of yourself. Even a 7th grader can understand such simple English that Ash has used. It's very different than some wannabe shakespears. It's real, fun to read and creative, no such big efforts to impress anyone wth shopisticated words. I very much enjoyed the poem. It's a great piece, Ash please keep posting. I know you feel little frustrated at the moment but simply ignoring those people would be the best idea. however, if they were giving you advice and good criticism it would have been different, but these peopel are simply being mean and stupid.
Yo people, What's wrong with you? dont be steriotypical.. you guys are trying to kill the creativity in the sajha message board. I know there are some people who get into our nerves with thier funny effort to sound complicated, but that does not give us rights to be mean to them. Healthy criticism is one thing but to get down and dirty is another thing. I think Ash's poem is magnificant, it's not bombasting, it's not fake- it's simple and real.
Please don't be mean. how would you feel , if you ever write something- you think it's good and you post it on a message forum and people make fun of you or judge your intention of posting? how would you feel if you were in a stage and people throw rotten tomatoes at you ? how would you feel when you'er giving a speech in one of your classes and people make fun of you and walk out. why can't you tolerate, even if you don't like? of course, there are such things like healthy criticisms and trying to express how you feel but that has to be in a good way and with all due respects to the person you're commenting on.
Just remember people, what goes around come around.. and it's the truth.. don't get down and dirty judying people like this.. this is not good....

Sonika NY and Ladybug are the outcome of the Sajha treand that was going on for quite a while. For a long time , it's been an unwritten law in sajha that one person posts a message/poem/or a story and rest of them say wow, great job, splendid... hehe and lots of other goody goody words that my limited vocabulary is unable to recall at the moment.
I always felt bad thinking what is the reason behind my poor English. After all i went to college here, i've been working here for quite a while and i've been studying English for pretty much all my life. Then i thought , it's probably because these people worked hard learning the language thats why they're more proficient than me. I got so distrubed by not understaning some of the writings from sitara and czar, and some by Oys ( no personal attack here, plesseee i'm just trying to make my point) that i actually took it to one of my dear friend from my college days - who's also my literature teacher.She was amazed to see the writing too. She said, this is amazing how things have been writtien, but anyone can tell that the person is trying too hard to look complicated with the words that are not even appropirate and certainly not necessary to put used where they are used.
I finally, concluded that it is kind of a show off. After all what makes us feel so obliged to use all those dead and decayed words from the past??
it was obvious that most people were getting irretated by such show offs, and I believe that Sonika and Ladybugg are not just two individuals who're just bashing on Sitara and her some others , but i have feeling that these are the voices of the people who got really irretated by the unnecessary show off.
However, Sonika - criticism has to be done in a very respectful manner. And if you were born and raised in the United States, you would have totally enjoyed the work of Ash. Sonika , while protesting againsts show offs - you're turning out as one yourself, please be careful. And people please give sonika a break and don't excite her too much. Let's drop this matter once for ever, although i know it's gonna come back again. Probably, i would be the first person to protest another show off message soon one of these days.. till then.. let's live in harmony..

..tauke brother, i know that my English sucks. but tell you what? i'm not feeling bad for it.. English is my second language. I am not here to show off my English. I've nothing to prove to you and other sajhalites. When -where i need to use English for my career or other important things , i've never felt limited. Most importantly , i've never had problems expressing myself in English and making my points to the rational and sane people whose ears are not clogged up with fake pride.
Friend, thanks for pointing out and reminding me that i need to learn more, which i accept and don't accpet at the same time. I absolutely have no respect and energy to learn more English. I think , i've learned enough of someone else's language. If i ever wanna learn a language i would learn spanish or French and I would love to learn Japanese too; not forgeting to give more time on my dearest languare - yup, Nepali.
Friend, looks like you've struggled though ESL classes in you College. And, looks like you're too excited to be in English 101 this semester. Please be patient to take some more upper division English classes so you can pinpoint more than missing ' periods' and ' capatilizations' in a message forum. Please hold your horses till you become capable enough to correct people here. and most importantly - don't be cocky.
Also my flush is still undone, tsk tsk.. you're being a slacker lately.. and would you like to proof read my thesis too. would save me some time to go back and check for capatilization and periods.. haha.. kiddin' kiddin' bro...

Maybe your tagging people as "show-off's" is actually an attempt to hide your own deep-rooted complex. Different people have different talents and some people have a knack for writing, and are gifted with language and expression skills. And yes, sometimes they like to play with words to create a more vivid and interesting composition. Just because some people don't uderstand their writing, why should they compromise on their creativity? I am sure that you have many talents and skills of yourself. Would you want to renounce those skills just because some people don't understand it? I agree that this is a public discussion board and most people post their opinions here for other people to read and understand but hey, everyone is free to adopt their own writing style. Some people go for the simple but powerful, and some people use their words as their weapon. If the former is more your style, go for it. Just ignore the more complicated posts.
Honestly speaking, I don't understand the many poems and epics written by our great poet, Lakshmi Prasad Devkota. But, do I dare write him off as a show-off?

So when i don't even respect the language when how can i have complexes? however, if you use unnecessary and dead and decayed -fossiled words just to impress your audience then yes, it's a show off. If you can't tell a difference between a show off and a real creativity than you're the one who needs to be confident - don't bring it on to me baby doll ;)

my english is pretty bad too. i wish i could write well in english. i am a nepali guy and my first language is nepali. nepali is the only language i spoke when i was in nepal. there are so many languages in this world. even in nepal we have different languages, like nepali, newari, maithali, etc. it is not easy to read or write in different language for one who has spent most of his time speaking only one language. language is the medium. it is a medium for conversation, express things, write. germans speak different language, japanese have thier own language, french have their language, nepali have their language. it would have been interesting if some nepali living in nepal had nt been able to speak in nepali but in my opinion it should not be embarrasing not to able to speakl or express or write well like native speaker in their language. how many americans can speak and read in nepali?? like i said earlier, language is medium, we can nt compare who is intelligent or who is more educated or who is scientist just by language. there were many scientists who were could nt speak english. non english speaking countris like france, italy, germany, japan are very well developed countries and have good technologies. so lets not fight about this language thing. if someone wants to work in english speaking country and his/her job is related to more communication and public related sector, then it is essential. like if some foreigner goes to nepal and wants to work there, it would be very helpful if he can speak nepali language. i am not expressive. i can nt write well. not even in nepali, i wish i coudl wrtie wel both in nepali and english.

Well, so many have said so many things in here that I could not remain without writing my share of saying...:-)! I agree with Dyamm and South though.
English in not my second language but rather the fourth. Firstly, my mother tongue is Newari, second comes the nation's language Nepali, then comes our neighbor's language Hindi (learned before English by reading Flash Gordon, Phantom and Mandrex comic books-Indrajaal... remember? Some of you might!). Only then came English!
So, for me, it's a satisfying feeling that I am resourceful in terms of language. Llike some of you stated above, language is power, a resource and a medium to communicate and express well. So, as Nepali we should be proud that we have the capability of handling at least 3-4 languages. Therefore, not having the perfect grammer or having typos should not be a problem.
Further, language usage depends on the contexts as well. English in US has transformed in one way and in Nepal in other ways. The old English that even the Brits have forgotten is alive and kicking in some southern parts of India. So, arguement over this English and that English is pointless.
Finally, transformation of languge is context specific and ability to speak a particular language well does not ascertain an individual's intelligence or talent.
Sajahaites are no fools, they are capable of differentiating between a fake and a genuine.
... a bit of a rhetoric though! :-) !!

And of course, where else to get that trip other than Sajha.com where most people who come to read/post messages are the people whose English is a second language.
I love Nepali language man. My whole point can be summarized by two proverbs. and ya of course, ' bhujnay layee sirkhanda, na bujhnay layee khurpa ko beed'.

I understand everyone's english in the World who speak English as thier first language. I 've never had any problems reading an English book, including literature books although sometimes i have to open my dictionary but thats fine, it makes sense after i use a dictionary.Howcom i am not unnersanding some bery bery - good good English of Nepali popuple? They must be really smart than most people who wrote books and teaught in a State owned University and of course , they're better than Shakespear. good thing shakespear died a long time ago, otherwise he would have to face this insult of getting defeated by a English as a second language postees in a Nepali message forum- that also in his own language., yes- true??? hahaha

There is a Nepali dai here where I live. It's not like he speaks english as well as the amerikans do. He has stayed in US for more than 15 years and is already an American citizen too, but is still linguistically challenged(from the amrican viewpoint) . I am not too particular about pronounciations and don't give it too much importance.
The first time, I saw him correcting his wife. Boy was that funny. His pronouncation is farthest from what can be called ''amerikan'.:() And then the other day he tried to correct me too. I just kept quiet and let him go about his foolish ways.
