Gang rapist suicides in jail A man, who along with four brothers, had been convicted of gang-raping two Sydney teenagers hanged himself in his prison cell just a week before he was to be sentenced. His parents in Nepal had no idea he had been charged with the crime, convicted and jailed. Late last year a NSW Supreme Court jury found the man, who can only be referred to as RS, and four brothers from Pakistan guilty of gang-raping two girls, aged 16 and 17, on July 28, 2002. The girls were raped at the home of the brothers at Ashfield in Sydney's inner-west. Corrective Services Commissioner Ron Woodham said the man was found hanging in his prison cell at Long Bay metropolitan medical transit centre at 8am (AEST) on Thursday. "The inmate was found at 8am on Thursday morning in his cell hanging by a bed sheet which was attached to the bars of his cell," Mr Woodham said. The 26-year-old had been in the cell on his own and was found by a prisoner doing the daily milk run. The prisoner alerted authorities. Corrective Services said there had been no suggestion RS was a suicide risk. During sentencing submissions in February, RS said he had not told his parents in Nepal that he was in jail, or that he had been charged with gang rape, because he was ashamed. He also said that despite his DNA being found on a condom used in one of the rapes he could not remember the attacks on the two girls because of blackouts he had suffered for years. "I don't have any memories of them (the girls)," he said. RS said he was sorry the girls had been raped, despite being unwilling to talk about the crimes with a probation and parole officer. "I feel sad, I feel ashamed that things happened to them," he said during submissions. The other four men will be sentenced next Thursday. A mandatory coronial inquest will be held into RS's death. |

What blackout ??? Anyway my heart goes to the Nepali parents. Can't imagine how they would react when they hear about their son's suicide and the circumstance that led to it. No forgetting the victim's family and the victim themselves.Forever for life this incident will change the way they look at men. Regards, Bhanja |

Milliondollars ji, It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that the title of your thread (Gorkahli ...Million Dollars) is completely irrelevent of your posting that follows. Please enlighten me what corelation I am to draw between your title and the post. In fact, I feel: that your shady title and the shameful news about " a gang rape incident" seem to draw relations between the two. To me it seems (whether it is/was your intention or not, I dont know) your title and the article following thereof is suggestive of an association of the Gorkhalis with a shameful acts as raping somebody. In that light, I would like to voice my discontent against such tendencies and strongly urge you to refrain from doing so. Viswas. |

VishwasBro, You gotta cool it. Just news committed by a gorkhali and by no means any generalization that you are trying to derive. You cannot generalize a race/nationality. No need to over-react. |
