Bhanja Bro, Phrase n. A sequence of words intended to have meaning. A characteristic way or mode of expression. A brief, apt, and cogent expression. "Once bitten twice shy" is a phrase. This particular phrase means if a person has been wronged of hurt in the past, it makes him/her weary or sensitive of its cause. This phrase is comparable to "Agulto le jaleko kukur chatyang dekhi daraucha" or something to that effect in Nepali. I gather you didn't take it too well when I made constructive criticism on your photoart in other thread. You went on to mention that I have "High Expectation", which shows that you are still sore about it. Hence, once bitten twice shy. It was tongue and cheek rather then high handed dealing. Sorry you failed to see the lighter side. Bhanja bro if I may be so bold as to make a suggestion; please try and understand the message/idea a fellow poster is trying convey before jumping to conclusions (presumption). Creativity, Praise, support(moral/artistic), wit, humor, mudslinging, criticism, baseless slander, jealousy, gossip, sycophantic adulation, stalking et all is part and parcel of forum such as sajha. You have to learn to weed out the good and ignore the rotton ones. Hope this helps. |

Didn't know explaining oneself could be so exasperating, kudos to patient teachers. Bhanja bro, i was merely trying to mince words for you. Besides, yours was not a casual remark. To quote you: "What d u mean by once beaten twice shy???? I am not bitten nor am I shy.Get that clear,Bro.Don't act in a high handed manner here. It is now early in the morning and I am quite pissed of with your respond about beinng bitten n twice thing. Please stop giving me that kind of crap." enuff.... let the creative juices flow. I have met so many nepalis here in US who vow that they had never walked with arms wrapped around like these children here. I thought after studying in US people would become tolerant of one another, but my bad :P ** SOrry, for the digression photographers. Redstone, I've decided to stick to film for a while. It will cost me at least $1000 to get a digital SLR and there's no way that will last me more than three years. There's no way I can afford that amount for a hobby at this stage in life. On the other hand, my film SLR from two years ago will last for years and years to come. More than cost, I like the fact that I can just snap away with my film camera and not have to worry about processing the pics in my computer. Yeah, I have to spend a little more time scanning my favorite pictures to put on the web, but if I took those pics with a digicam, I'd probably have to spend that time downloading and working with them in Photoshop anyway. |

Photoshop does enhance your photo a lot but off course ur orginal source has to be good too if u really want to see really vibrant colour in your photos. As I look at your latest posting, u too have a vibrant colours, BRo. Frankly, I have only limited knowledge but I can give u title pf the book if u really want to really learn the art of photo touching using photoshop. They are as follows: Professional Photoshop------Dan Margulis The Photoshop Book 4 digital Photographer---Scot Kelby But b warned the price of the book is damn expensive. If u want to get in touch with me. I can be reached @ rajeshpayalrai@yahoo.com or nepalibands@yahoo.com. By the way, I am not Rajesh Payal Rai Regards, Rai |

I use a Nikon N80 with the 24-120 mm VR lens. Some day, I would love to get the Nikon 70-200mm/F2.8 lens for portraits and the Nikon 105mm/F2.8 macro lens for close-ups. But I'm more than happy with what I have now. I've once used a friend's F717. It's a sweet camera indeed. But the F828 seems to be even better based on the spec and reviews. NepaliThito, I think you can do most of what you want in Photoshop with the Image->Adjust->Brightness/Contrast tool. Sometimes I use the Filter->Sharpen. Those are about the only things I use in Photoshop. Bhanja, enlighten us about what magic you do in Photoshop! |

thanks bhanja and titomitho for your tips. the books sure look pretty expensive. i use digital camera but the only thing i do with photoshop mostly is reduce the size of the photos so that i can post it in the net. will try playing with other things and see how they flare. |

as for me i love close ups whether it is of the people especally children or of the nature. like i have posted before. i really love to take the close up of the flowers. they come out pretty colorful. as for the second question, i like to go for candid pictures. take the photos in natural pose thats my motto. here is the close up of ghadiyal taken in kasara

NepaliThito, Wonderful portrait of the kid! Since you like close-ups and nature, here's a picture for you. I shot it at my college last spring and had to literally lay flat on the ground to take this picture with a tripod. The flower was probably a few inches tall. Isn't it cherry blossom time in Japan? Post some spring pictures, if you've taken any recently!

those dinosaurs are made up of snow and there are hundreds of such statues that are made and are on public dispaly for about a week or so where tens of thousands of people came and see them. this festival is on february when everything here is covered with snow and temperature is well below zero even in the day so the statue holds for the festival period |

Go to the 'start' at the bottom left of the computer screen. Start -->Program -->Accessories--> Paint. Open the paint window. Open the picture in paint. Go to 'image' menu--> Stretch/Skew In the "Stretch", if you put 50 in both horizontal and vertical, that means reduce the size of the picture to fifty percent. Rest is common sense... :P Save the Reduced/enlarged Pic with the new name. Phew!!! |
| nepalithhito | Posted

Sitara if you have photo shop you can easily do it by going to image>image size if you do not have photo shop you can do it in paintbrush too. go to image>stretch/skew |

I give u beneift o the doubt!!!! Anyway ,Tehi_moro_Ashish, there is no meaning to the pictures. The people in my pictures are going around doing there everyday life. These people are not aware that there photo is being taken. U c Bro, I m posting pictures here that are mostlly, people at their natural pose.Bearing in mind that they are pleasing to the eyes.I don't just click my camera without thinking.I compose and visualise how it is going to look like. To me, when I take pictures, I prefer people at their natural pose.I also pay a lot of attention about positiong my subject or compostion.Bro, like I said I don't just take pictures without thinking about the end result,I hope now u r more aware about my style. Tehi_moro_ashish,thank u for your feedback. B prepared to be flooded with my travelogue pictures from Bangkok soon. regards, Bhanja |

Though ur comment about my pictures was quite blunt,tehi_moro_ashish,I did not use hars words.I undestand that ur eyes r not attuned to pictures which are different from what u r use to seeing.I guess,I would not want to waste my time describing the pictures. As far as I have seen the pictures posted here, I seem to have different approach of taking photos from most people and I am very happy.I guess being different sometime can b intidimating but u can b easily identifiable by just looking at the picture. Ashsih Bro, I wish 2 c more of ur pictures. I am not a pro-photographer nor have I been through any training but I have devoured lots of books and websites on photography.May b I can provide u with my 2 cents worth opinion on your pictures. How about that ??? regards, Bhanja |

well bhanja you seems to like takeing photos of people a lot. i too hate it when people start posing in front of the camera when i want to take a photo in natural pose. but sometime especially with the children what i do is keep my camera focused in their face and then call then and shoot them when they give you a glance. giving them just a bit of time to react to the fact that i was just going to take their photograph. does not work always but can get some beautiful shots too. here is one taken in the same way.

Thank you for your compliments, tyehi_moro_ashish! Bhanja and NepaliThito, I think there are two kinds of pictures of people – posed and candid. If the picture is posed, the person being photographed is aware of the photographer’s presence, whether or not s/he responds to the presence. NepaliThito, your picture of the child above is a posed picture, although you don’t seem to have told her how to pose, which way to tilt her head or how wide her smile should be. Then there are candids, like most of Bhanja’s pictures, where none in the photograph is aware of his presence. What’s the right way to take pictures of people – I think you can take either posed or candid shots and have wonderful portraits of people. What’s important is whether the subject’s personality comes out in the photograph more than how it was taken. Here’s a photo that illustrates my point. I took it in B/W film in the heart of Times Square, New York. I was passing by when I saw a street-artist sketching portraits. Would you consider this a posed or a candid picture?

you could not have put them in better words titomitho. i generally go on to take a candid shot then go on to take a shot with a very less response time. even while sombody is posing for me, i wait and wait until they get tired and drop off the pose and show their natural emotions. so in a way getting a person's natural emotion is my main theme. ubi nice pictures of patale chango and pasuatinath. i was thinking about posting some of those but seems that you beat me it. anyway i am going to post one photo of bangkok, before bhanja does it ................. bhanja waiting to see the people from bangkok from your camera

Scatterbrain, that's a nice picture of Times Square. It's amazing how much energy that place has. The thousands of people that are there at any time of the day are a sheer delight for a photographer. In the two hours I spent there last summer, I shot three rolls of film - of street artists, a pregnant woman frantically running around trying to sell bunches of roses to couples, the famous nude model, crew from a Latino TV station shooting footage on the streets... it's an amazing place. On a different note, here's a photo of Shiva-Parvati sitting in the window of their Basantapur house. It's cropped so the picture quality isn't that great, but check out Shiva's left hand! I never noticed that until a Jamaican friend pointed it out to me.

Nepalithito, your picture of the little girl eating chow-chow is beautiful. Makes me miss Wai Wai! Bhanja, what's up with your name written across the model's face? I had heard much about Takashimaya , but was really unimpressed by it when I finally visited Singapore City. I didn't find it different from any other upscale clothing store. I was amazed at nearby Kinokuniya's book collection, though. Here's a pretty normal picture of Kaal Bhairav in Basantapur. But note the little kid praying to Bhairav on the way to school. Wonder what he's praying for... "He bhagawan, plich plich plich aaja malai homework nadeu. Ani malai sathiharu sanga guchha ma jitai-deu."

Note: Reproduced in Acrylics on canvas paper --from a quilt-piece done by my colleague. THE ROAD NOT TAKEN by Robert Frost Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that, the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Sitara, thanks for bringing the poem to our attention. I've read the last three lines but not the entire poem. The painting is a wonderful interpretation of the poem. We photographers sometimes don't appreciate paintings because we say we prefer to see reality as it is. But there is no such thing as reality - what we decide to present in photos are no more than our interpretations of reality too. Anyway, beautiful painting! Nice picture of the palm(?) trees on the shore, Neural. Where is the "other side" you took the picture in? Bhanja, I thought the watermark distracted attention from the model's face, but I see why you put it in the photo. Here's a photo of a woman giving a manicure to another woman. I was walking by Boston Common when I saw this scene and asked them if I could take their picture. They were a little surprised that I wanted to take a photo of their hands and not their faces. America is hectic place to live in but some people still know how to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life.

Love the bell peppers, Honeybuzz! I like the way they're scattered around the porcelain facing all different directions. The furry thing - in the first photo and the second one - what is it? Rukh-katahar? And the skeletons in the third painting - they look like they're being blown away in the night sky. Stuff for a bhoot-ko-katha! |

As much as I love Bhanja's vibrant colors and NepaliThhito's beautiful sunsets, I think black and white photos have their own charm, especially with portraits. Here's a photo of my niece, who's the most chan-chale six-year-old I know. But I can't believe how innocent she looks in the photo!

Thanks, Honeybuzz! NepaliThhito, I was going to say the photo's of Donald Trump's backyard - for the waterfall's grandeur - but it's got too much algae so that can't be it. It's gotta be a public park somewhere. |

Hold up kids! Think for a moment. Use your brain. What exactly is the purpose of posting all these ridiculously lame pictures in this forum? Trees, snow, cats...please! They are bad, unartistic, probably copied from some other website violating the copyright, and they don't mean a damn thing and no one appreciates it. Why don't you all do something constructive, or come up with something that everyone appreciates. No one needs to see a cat eat a storm. Sitara, you know better. |

Brrr. Chuchi and Honeybuzz, your photos make me feel cold. Here's a Spring photo from what "was" my backyard:

Um.. badmash jii! Think before you jump to the conclusion here. I think they are very nice pictures. TitoMitho can i ge those flowers and give it to our badmasjii. Saro hallha gharnu bho :P Titomitho looks like silence was talking in the backyard :) Sitara can i have that puppy plchhhhhhhhhh........... |
| TitoMitho | Posted
on 29-Apr-04 09:09 PM
Chuchi, you see "silence talking" in the photo because it was too early when I took it. We called the place "the beach". Best place on earth to lay in the warm spring sun and act as if we were doing our reading. And Badmash, you happen to be the arbiter of what is and isn't a "bad, unartistic, probably copied from some other website" photo? And when you say "Why don't you all do something constructive, or come up with something that everyone appreciates", are you asking yourself the question?! |
| Badmash | Posted
on 29-Apr-04 09:17 PM
Okay I'm sorry tithomitho and all of you who I may have offended. I'll take back my words. I like the phone chord. By the way, where is that backyard picture? The landmark seems familiar. |

Thanks, Badmash! it's funny how you see things with a camera that you don't with the naked eye. that's what i love about photography. and the backyard, it's a liberal arts college on the east coast. is that what you were thinking? |
