I was compelled to watch the show. My niece wouldn't budge from the T.V. screen until the show was over, but after I watched the show closely, I was amazed by its correlation to the middle class american life-style, middle class american mentality. These kind of outspoken shows are rare in america. All american people are used to all the romanticizm and glamour, and in the midst of it all, the Simpsons is thriving. It does not try to over do things. It is hugely successful in blending the bitter truth with humour to make the show just successful. The show successfully depicts the dumbass americans, and still, the american dad's fail to realize how close to Homer Simpson they are, american Mom's don't realize how Marge is representing them and forget about the childrens. I take my hats off to those few americans behind the show. Cartoons might be labeled childish, but there is a different charm with The Simpsons.

I totally agree with your assessment of The Simpsons show.

Btw, do you know Tony Blair is also a great fan of Simpons.

My roommate almost religiously watch this show. Then I got curios one day and started watching it and found out it is very entertaining.

The show is definately the reflection of middle class family.

Homer, Bart despite their obnoxiousness I cannot stop loving them. They are not pretentious. Mr. Burns - Homer Simpson boss exactly represents Corporate America. We see characters like Apu( convinent store clerk/owner) everyday. With humor this show is giving unvarnished picture of America.

Now i've been watchin simpsons since i dn't know when. They have always been the greatest thing on TV ever. Even though it has changed a lot since it started on fox, its still great. ME BE THE GREAT FAN OF THE SIMPSONS.

The Simpsons on their dinner table.
Homer: have some bacon, lisa.
Lisa: No dad
Homer: How about some pork chops?
Lisa: No dad
Homer: How about some sausage?
Lisa: (frowning) they all come from the same animal.
Homer: Right lisa, the magical animal.

hey ,does anybody notices that home's boss looks like dick cheney?

Ha Ha, You nailed it GIJane, I was also thinking about the same thing. Dunno what they are trying to get into though.
Another bitter truth they are trying to show, I think, is that 75% of the americans are dumbass, because everyone except Lisa in the family seem to obtuse. Even Marge who controls her husband sometimes seem to swerve from the main path.
Every character represents something and there is a whole load of interpretation. The more I think about it, the more close to reality it is.

Simpsons is trying to potray the parody of American life, just as MAHA did in Nepal.......now how close is it to truth? that's a question to ponder, even though the similarities to reality sometimes strikes us.........in my view, it is probably a more vivid potrayal of a certain class of American society, than as a whole... kinda like how King of the Hills is. we don't all speak hill-billys now do we?

May the Lord save us, if we all get stereotyped by one personality!

Sitara ji!
We all do steriotype. We just can't help it no matter how hard we try. After all we all are social animals :|

Oh yeah! About the show, we all can learn alot from it. It can relate to many things we see in our daily life. For example: I dare to compare current situation in iraq wieh Mr. Burn's body. The issue reminds me of the episode in which Mr. Burns gets whole body checked-up and was diagnosed with several diseases. Yet the doc refuses to cure any of them ......... likewise the condition in iraq was the same. Anyway, watch the show to understand what I mean......

Ladybug - I never said that the show potrays whole of america, but it think that it does an excellent job in depicting the life of Middle class americas. It give that uncensored view of the ameircan middle class "alimentary canal".
GIJane Posted on 21-Apr-04 12:19 PM

People people people. simpsons is not about middle class america for f ck's sake! the show is about people. period. the show alwyas ends with a human touch. humanity if you must. no matter how "screwed up" homer is he still loves his wife. no matter how he does not understand lisa, the brain, he still loves the fact that this is his daughter. just last night (to give you an example)'s show he made a movie for lisa as a b'day gift but totally off the mark what lisa loves, who is lisa's friend. But, when lisa pointed out that and ran from the room in despair, homer is sad sad and wants to make up for his goof up. with all his failures as a father and a husband he loves his family. when analyzing simpsons DO not forget this element. maybe you guys should read more than just sajha. com. whatdya say? (no smiley face here).

Used to like it... Dont anymore... but it is still funny... Tony Blair even did a voice over for Simpsons once... Well he was Tony Blair himself ofcourse... when The SImpspns visit UK...
The Funniest scene I remember from that episode is when Homer has to go Pee... real bad and he cant find anywhere... so he's like wtf lemme just do it on the road... A policeman comes and he's like oh shit! But the Policeman is like come with me sir if you have to pee... he takes him to a beautiful garden extremely well pruned and stuff... Homer pees and compliments the cop on British hospitality and the cop guy goes oh that was just the French Embassy... ehahahah I thought that was funny....
Definitely not a show for kids though... three sticks guy (|||_|||) you let ur neice watch it... :)
