I just spoke in one of my class today about euthanasia, so mah opinion. I want to be put to sleep when I become a vegetable. Meaning that I won't be able to perform even the simple basic task like eating and standing up without other people's help. So that sums up that I am FOR euthanasia.

Before you pull the plug, think about what humanity can see today that it couldn't yesterday! When hope's not the only thing left, for humanity is pushing the envelope everyday, would my soul rest in peace? I think not.

Meera, Your're not talking about euthanasia. You're talking about having the right to die when you want to - and that's not euthanasia. Here I completely agree with you. Why should anyone force me to live when I don't want to live anymore? Fine. But euthanasia is about killing other people when you thnk the (emotional and financial) cost of keeping them alive is not worth for them to keep living. Here's the dictionary definition of the word: euthanasia: "the act or practice of killing or permitting the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals (as persons or domestic animals) in a relatively painless way for reasons of mercy" And this is where it gets tricky. I might be living as a vegetable, I might have have all my limbs mutilated, the rest of my body paralyzed, and my brain oozing out of my head, but I still should be able to live as long as I want to. Why should anyone be able to tell me when I should die? And that's why I don't support euthanasia.

Making TitoMitho's dictionary defination as basis, we come up with two issues: 1. Having the right to decide when one wants to die or be 'mercy-killed'. 2. Taking the liberty of 'mercy-killing' those who have become a vegetable etc. I can support point 1. but can't support point 2. When I am in incurable pain, a vegetable and a burden to myself/others, I think I will be doing justice to myself and others by ending the pain/burden, provided that I am in a condition of expressing my wish. I am not too sure how my soul would feel after death though. I am speaking strictly for myself here. Further, just because some are incapable of expressing their wish regarding ones life or death... nobody should have the right/liberty of deciding about their living or not. It's a bit blood curdling even to think and write about this issue. This is just an objective point of view. I don't know what I would want once I am a vegetable. Sorry guys, this is too complex an issue to give black & white answer at present. But continue the discussion because we will be faced with innumerable issues, new school of thoughts in 21st century that we will be forced to question, reconsider our moral, cultural, religious, social values and foundations. Wish_list: The topic you have raised is of moral values, and since one can't expect all the share the same set of morals, when we express our opinions, don't scoff at them as trite. Along with euthanasia, there are other issues that provoke personal sentiments such as banishing boxing as a lethal sport, legalization of alcohol/marijuana, abortion rights, gay rights, the list could go on and on. I respect your opinion on the issue, but if you can't give me the same when I express mine, how can I say you really enjoy discussion? And where did you find my lines in google? Plagiarism is not something that I take pride in. Do not discredit google either, if you can learn to use it wisely, that may very well be the most convenient place where you can find what you are looking for.

i would not mind unplugging my loved ones if I feel the life that they choose has somehow turned them into a vegetable, taking the word literally, would I like to live like one? for indefinite time?, when (If I was able to know), I would ROT like one and not DIE?, Vegetables rot, not people, because we have something called DIGNITY. I might not be able to save a person of their incurable, debilitating, (painful?) disease but I can save them rotting like a undignified Budho_Kauli.
