Hi people,
I have been in the U.S for almost 3 year as a F-1 student.. I recently won the DV lottery and will be interviewing in May for my greencard. Has anyone been in this situation and if so what kind of questions will be asked ? I would really appreciate your help.
Peace out.
Ram Prasad Posted on 22-Apr-04 12:20 PM

Chronic....Been there done that.....congrats on ur lottery dude....Be sure that u haven't flunk the semester.....is in good standing with ur school.....have all the paper works (i.e Trancript,Sponser letter and so on....it's been long i forgot what kind of paper work is needed)....that way they don't have much to ask about....I was in the interview room for 2 mins. The only question that the lady asked was "Are u still in status?".....I took the transcript out and letter from international office and showed to the lady....that was it.....
well....one more thing....i dunno if it will apply to u.....the lady that took the interview for me was damn pretty (did i spell that right?). I told her so and she was nice after that....u know how girls are (no offense please)........
good luck man....if u need further asst. then do write here or if u need e-mail add...i can give u mine...........
dyamn Posted on 22-Apr-04 12:21 PM

correction: flunking semester should not disqualify you as long as you're in status.
chronic99 Posted on 23-Apr-04 08:20 PM

Ram Prasad ,
Thanx for quick response, man. Anyways I still have some concerns regarding this interview. And yes , I'm in status so that shouldn't be a problem. When I started out the paper-work, I never sent INS a sponsor letter. ?Is it madatory to have a sponsor letter in the interview . And do they give out the greencard instantly or do they notify me latter. Please help me out on this. I don't wanna screw the last thing .
Thanks dude.
Ekar Posted on 23-Apr-04 08:52 PM

Yes !!! the most important thing to get the greencard thru DV lottery is sponser's letter. They would most likely ask you sponser letter and tax paper from your sponser... They even asked me whether I work anywhere, providing the fact that i didn't have any sponser. The INS officer mentioned that if you can just prove to US government that you'll be working and not go for welfare either by showing work history in US or sponser letter will definetely grant you Greencard.

Anyways best of luck..don't be scared about the interview..they won't ask you anything..it is much easier then the one you went to in Nepal.
bhuwan kc Posted on 24-Apr-04 03:51 AM

So it seems the DV 2005 results have been announced. Any one else receive it yet, as I thought I was surely going to get it this time :) But no luck it seems. Chronic are you based in Nepal or US?
Ram Prasad Posted on 24-Apr-04 12:47 PM

Cronic....
sorry couldn't come to Sajha for two days.....had a grand opening in my work.....12 straight hours of work for two days........anyway.....Ekar made a good point there....I had a sponsor letter....very good one....it even said that the job will be there for me for over a year...so they were not worried about me going for a welfare.....I had all tax papers of my sponser (actually she is my own sister who has a dang good business.... i am lucky to have her....she always has my back). Man....it's been almost more then 4 years....about to be citizen soon.....so i don't remeber every detail of it........I would suggest you to hire a lawyer....i did and it was cheap.....he charged me only $700.00 to do everything.....he was willing to go to the interview with me...i stopped him coz i thought i will sell the interview out (which i surely did)....Be sure that you haven't worked in paycheck anywhere....I used to work but i used to get paid in hard cash....no any track.....i was clean for my working record as well although i was working.....so...that's all I can remember now....if you have further question, keep on posting on thread....or need an e-mail....i can give you that as well.............
Ram Prasad Posted on 24-Apr-04 12:51 PM

One more thing....the green card came after a month after the interview date....they stamped the passport and that was it.....chill out my friend...go out have some beer (disregard if you are under 21)....won't be that hard...don't sweat now....it will be all over in no time.....
Ram Prasad Posted on 24-Apr-04 12:59 PM

continue....
they will send a letter later saying that your paperwork is incomplete if you haven't send the sponser letter yet...they did that for me when i forgot to send one of the paper....what is your lottery number anyway, man? if you have large number, you have to wait because INS won't take your application if your number has not come... ...do you have anybody who can sponser you, man?....again...did you hire a lawyer?
buzz Posted on 18-May-04 07:48 PM

I am in the same situation, I recently got the DV, and will be going to INS soon to submit my form. how does the whole thing work?? if anyone can explain in brief.. that would be awesome.

Also, I am currently a graduate student and get some stipend from the school. Do I still need to submit a letter from a sponsor?

enlighten me, please.

DcKeTa Posted on 20-May-04 12:54 PM

Well Cant be DV 2005, if he won DV 2005 then i would believe his interview would be on May 2005, not May 2004. At present they are interviewing, For DV 2004.

Cheers.
buzz Posted on 20-May-04 02:01 PM

I am not going for an interview. I am just going to find out what steps do I need for further process. But, it IS DV2005.
Chronic99 Posted on 21-May-04 09:55 AM

Hey buddy Buzz,
It not that tough. I went thru the same phase not knowing where to start with last year and now I'm finally done with my interview and glad that i got my card. They should have send your the applciation and other materials . so what i did was called up the INS and went there personally waited 7 hrs just to ask them what should i do next. Then they asked to fill some paper work and sent me other documents asking me to send in my transcripts, medical report and all other shit. so I did and then I had to set up an appointment with the social security department to get my work permit and my fingerprints taken . this whole thing takes a while and the INS wil call you to set up an interview after they have issued the work permit. And as far as my experience, if you have remained in status and going to school fulltime there's no reason they would deny you. And once your done with the interview they will just stamp(Green Card) it in your passport.
So just chill out and email me if you have any questions.
Peace out bro

I won DV-2005, too. But later I realized I made a mistake in one of the forms, I forgot to add the address of the schools I attended, instead I only wrote their names. And it is clearly asking for both... I am afraid I lost everything. My number was 19,000 something. I wonder what is gonna happen.
buzz Posted on 06-Jun-04 02:33 PM

jack101,

i personally think it is not a big deal. don't worry, just hope that your no. comes by sept 2005.

good luck,
