Antagonists of Nepal's political game seems to have more complex interior than I previously thought. May be you will agree. Some examples are listed below.

--
Gyanendra's profile at the recent New York Times article says he loves net surfing. No wonder I see a surge in some badly written, royalist postings here in Sajha. Will the real Gyanendra among the Sajhaites please stand up? :-)

--

Prachanda's profile in an old Times Of India mentioned he adored Karishma. Frankly, I think Prachanda just made that up. I mean have any of you met any Maoists in your life? They lack any humor. They loathe the glamor. Matrika Yadav told that frankly to Nepal's some crappy moviemakers in one powwow. Pampha Bhusal used to lead adrenaline juluses against the beauty pageants in KTM. Her fiery anger, her hatred for anything glamorous is ubiquitously known. Hishila Yami had made quite a name by her masculine coiffure, her holier-than-all-male attitude, and if occasional visitors to Dr Bhattarai's house are to be believed, her making Babu Ram work at least half of household chore including dishing(Sorry, feminist readers!) . There is no way these people can love the glamorous girl who banged into Nepali movie industry from Santaan with a role of a debauched city girl who practices infidelity and was killed by her husband, somehow with the approbation of the movie watchers, at the bed with her paramour.

Last summer, in Bharatpur, I was told by a few Prachanda's neighbors in Ujeli Nagar that local boys have started referring to the road leading to Prachanda's house as King's Way. Reminded me a part of Area of Darkness by VS Naipaul. Apparently, in 1962, as soon as the news of Chinese victory in the borders with India started trickling in,the South Indians, who had previously refused to learn Hindi, started learning Mandarin. It is interesting how resistance melts down in the face of not-so-known alien attackers.

Finally, Have you wondered how Gyanendra's name has almost similar meaning with that of one curmudgeon and capricious 'minister', Buddhi Man Tamang, who is thesedays miffed at Surya Bahadur for not making him home minister. Interesting and ironical.

Last year, I was entering Sagarmatha National Park when a moustachioed guard of the park told me how Kasturi (musk deers) were being endangered.I had rarely known this Buddhi Man before last summer anyway. So, the guard , after pressed, told me the rumor was that musk deers were Buddhiman's favorites. As I trudged towards Namche, the locals repeated the same things. The locals love wild life, they want to protect it. It is the outsiders who try to kill them. When pressed, all of them told me yea, it is the men of Buddhiman.Such a uniform finger pointing was unprecedented for me. I am sure readers from that region has a comment if they are reading this.

No wonder he featured in the clean council of ministers of the king who loves 'wild life'and strives to preserve our 'flora and fawna'.

Biswo ji,
Yes, I remember that news article. Naya film banauna chhodera Karishma ji DC ma natak kheli ra dekya the. Nepal ma batabaran ramro chhina re filim silim banauna. Prachanda babu le tyo sunya bhe kehi oopaye garnu hunthyo ki?

Ani, Prachanda Bir Bikram lai ta Bhainsi ko dudh pani khub man parchha re ni! Pakkai pani waha katai goth.ma lukera basnu bha chhana hola. :)

Biswo,

well said. And more so your metaphors that gotten built up during your last summer visit is well exemplified in what you wrote.

Tara, if Mr Gyanendra Saha is reading this thread, he would be required to heed to the basic principles of mangement and that is learning about the grass root stuff that could be termed as small "Variables" to one big task.

aa tara Raja na bhaiee kai chanhchass ta? Fill me in with the alternatives? Like who do you think is going to take that leadership mantle to bring the nation back on track. Is it going to be one of those "America Return" leader that talks big on the capitalistic issue in a place where people are far away from understanding the difference between materials and emotions?

Nonetheless, you have impressed me with your lurid way of putting things in letters and words which is unheard of, of the people who love calculus and numbers.

Biswo,
I don't know how accurate your portrayal of Prachanda would be, but it sure was a good read. There are other infamous rumors about Buddhi Man that I'd rather not discuss as I cannot vouch for their truth.
Want more.

mitra2,

Thanks for your comment.

I have no problem with what Karishma does with her career. I just think Prachanda was trying to be more human (like us) when he said he adored Karishma and walked hours to watch her movies. I mean, if that is the case, why so much venom against the 'debauchery' brought about by glamor world? I appreciate what Karishma's doing in movies, but let's face it: Karishma doesn't have a good movie to boast. She didn't act in Paralko Aago, Vasudev, Manko Baadh, Saaino, Prempinda like critically acclaimed movies. She was sort of Kimi Katkar of our movie industry, more than just a blip, an actress with abundance of beauty, a siren of screen, and desired by a section of audience. Does Prachanda's choice overlaps with that section's?

Rauniyar:

I was just trying to report the mentality sorrounding people who are otherwise stiff in their resistance to every other kind of leadership. I mean, even in joke, the kids , the highschool and college kids that is, don't generally regard anyone as king. Then suddenly, here they are, melting down like a candle in face of surge in insurgency, and coining ingratiating humor terminologies lionizing the rebel leader.

As for the alternative to the king, there are aplenty. Anyone can stage a few abhinandan program, anyone can do some autograph stunts in Lamjung, anyone can ask the likes of Marichman and Rajeshwor Devkota to come to Narayanhiti for consultation in time of trouble. What we will ideally looking for in a president is the person who can choose right people for consultation in the time of trouble, who has the right vision about how to appropriate nation's treasury and how to placate restive population, and that's what may be in relatively scarcity. Anyway, when an election is announced, you will see that almost 100+ people may file for candidacy. Do you think Nepali people won't love to be president? Even the queue to be a tikaa lagaayeko PM is so long :-)

DWI:

I think I am also not able to vouch for the truth of the widespread rumor. But if that is what the whole Khumbu is resonating with, if the fawns of Kasturi are dwindling and the old Kasturis are vanishing, not to mention some occasional killings of national park rangers, I guess it makes sense to report the rumor.

Years ago, there was this controversy about rhino 'gifts ' to foreign zoos. I am not sure if any of our readers know what is criteria to give such 'gift'to any particular zoo. Who qualifies for such gift and who doesn't? If the way Pandas are given to American zoos is any example, there is always some kind of monetary transaction involving such gift of endangered animals. When nation's wildlife is handled by a NGO that operates in opacity, things get operated in murky environment.

Btw, I have heard Makalu Varun Wildlife reserve is now almost destroyed due to insurgency. God bless the wildlives there!

Interesting and inquisitive, too.

The Times also reports that the king receives tips on what books to read from Henry Kissinger. This is also something new for me !

Yeh, heard a lot about Budhiman in and around Dhading, but did not have a clue that he is also after musk deers.
