Nothing wrong in trying to come to USA. But sometimes what makes me feel distraught is the fact that some of the Nepalese, who are well educated and had a good job in Nepal, suddenly develop some sort of inertia to advance their acadamic question further. For example, I was contacted by a fellow Nepali who had graduated MS with flying color (I think he said he was among top three in his class) and was a teacher in a medical college in Nepal. I thought he had a realistic shot at some good graduate school here. It was already almost two years since he came here, and he was still clueless about his acadamic prospect. And to make his ends meet, he was doing some menial jobs. I think it is not bad that people do low end jobs. But people with high calibre should strive to go as high as they can. There should be this spirit, this inner drive, in an individual to propel himself to an elevated status. In America, the major way to gain a higher status is by acquiring higher and better education. With greencard at hand, a lot of Nepali will find that they are more than welcome at the universities. My two cents!

Biswo Ji, aa ho coming to Amrika through DV-1 is a "Welcome Idea" for all Nepalese people. Our country gets stronger if the citizens of our country get stronger. That strength includes the intellecutal part you broached on, as well as the other part otherwise known as "Dollars." I believe in the fact that we all are here for a purpose. Some of us know what we are doing, some don't. But then, in the long run the more Nepalese in Amrika, or for that matter, in Europe or Australasia, means more money for our country Nepal. I say this coz our country on itself is not at a state to generate so much of wealth, that is why people like you and me and others are here at Sajha. Talent at waste is not a happy sight. Ra "Taile" bhanya jasto, it is not always the case that people get the opportunity to exercise what they have to offer. Having said that people like yourself and others who do have that vision, need to guide other Nepalese around you in the the right direction. Thopa thopa lai samundra bhancha ni hai. Also, I have realized through my experience that it takes a lot of sacrifices to choose that right path. It is an ordeal in itself. Not many like yourself, who would opt out of 60-70 K ko job and go for your PHD stuff. At least, I did not do so in my past. Also, there are many a factors that could be attributed as variables to decision-making when you are abroad. You have your family back home whom you are tied with. You have to deal with that immediate need of "Chu-lo bal-nee." And such! Uhi Rajeev, CT, Amrika
