manus1...read all books u placed as your favourite, pretty much agree except the God of Small Things. found it a bit of an anti climax. best ever book is the trilogy you mention and I'm not saying that cos of the movies. paulo cohelo was good, lovely ending. and helen fielding is just tooooo funny...makes us all 'inadequate' women feel like bridget. i'd like to add memoirs of a geisha by arthur goldstein (think the surname is wrong), the classic wuthering heights by emily bronte, canterbury tales by arthur miller and finally beastly tales by vikram seth. at the moment reading the bhagavad gita, and next whale rider but forget the authors name.

ohh... here, i'm going to bore you all AGAIN: The Chronicles of Narnia was the last thing i read... well, not really, cause technically, the last thing i read was about the eipthelial cells lining the ducts of the salivary glands.. .so... i loved The Guru Of Love... couldn't put it down... ! Manaslu, if you liked Bridjet Jones Diary, you'll also like the books by Marian Keyes. Shes an Irish author, and she posseses this really funny yet un_cheesy (the word is my own invention btw) aura about her... I'm a big fan of Irish Literature.. writers like Roddy Doyle.. etc are absolutely brilliant!

My all time fav. book is Charlotte's web. Read it maybe 7-8 years ago when I was in 7 grade, infact, it was the first ever book I ever read. Don't even remember the authors name now. Great children's novel with bitter reality embedded in it. Other than that, I love science fiction by Issac Isamov - the best one ever. Read his foundation trilogy - simply awesome. Thumbs up to MuniBhai, I love Sherlock Holmes stories. I have read almost all of them, not to mention, Hounds of Baskerville is the best one. Lord of the Rings trilogy rocks. Right now: The Bluest eyes - Tony Morrison The legend of John Brown - dunno the author coz don't have the book in front of me.

Current fav author - Tom Robbins Even the cowgirls get the blues - (Movie with Uma Thurman with copious amount of scent of women "combo of tuna/perfume", a chinese hermit who dances to bolero and news) Still life with woodpecker - ********** (philosophy, red heads, romance, raunch, Hawaii, princess, outlaw, dynamite all tightly packed in a Camel Ciggi pack) Fierce Invalids from Warmer Climates - ***** (The wacky hero, a CIA spy can name female organ in 70 different language) Another Roadside attraction - So So Jitterbug Perfume - (a Viking King escapes death and embarks on world adventure where he meets shaman who informs him that earth is actually round rather than flat, then meets Pan(Horny Goatie God) shares nymphs, is now in a monastery in Himalaya… reading) Skinny legs and all - ( Next) Half asleep in frogs pyjamas- (Next) Indira Gandhi - Katherine Frank Fantastic insight into the life of original woman of substance, the girl power et all, true daughter of Pandit Nehru and India. Extra juicy bits; inspired countless hindi movies with tales of corruption and sleaze. Infamous son Sanjay Gandhi bulldozed slums of Delhi, pocketed millions of dollars from his peoples car venture now known as "Maruti", radical family planning (snipped snipped almost 3 million men to curb population explosion), smear campaign against opposition Jagjivan Ram using compromising pictures of his 40+ married son with Delhi University student. hehehehe...I bet guys are googling right this moment. To speed up your search, go to tabloid section of Hindustantimes. You might be in for disappointment though. However, I assure you Protima Bedi (R.I.P) will make you smile. Charitrahin Chelis should take inspiration from her. Counter Investigation - Devendra Gautam Detailed account of life inside Hanuman Dhoka (Khor), where he was incarcerated without trial for 9 months. From Ghoos, beatings, prostitution, etc all in there. Make you want to line up all policemen and shoot them to kingdom come. Next 2 = Arresting God in Ktm and Guru of Love. (Still waiting from Poonte)

Not to sound cheesy but what about the greatest romance of all? "Gone with the Wind" I read this book when I was nineteen and thought that I was over the whole stupid "teenager crying over fictional characters phase." But I'm not lying when I say that this book put me on depression for a week. God, what powerful characters and what a great story!
