Hey, there is an Indian fast food-type restaurant called "Durbar East" on E.14th St. and 1st Avenue. The owner is a very nice Nepali (Dhruba dai), and you can get momo and alu-tama-bodi anytime you want there. If you call them ahead of time and make an order, they will also prepare chhoila, alu ko achar for you. Momo doesn't need advance order, though.

Ph. #: 212-677-0005

Mention code: "POONTE"... and you might get charged double! :p

poonte daju, where u live at NY, I am wondering about any roommates or place to live near longisland area, or queens area for my little child ( about 15 years old),and hence i am looking for a safe, secured place. I just need bit help on cost approximation. if any NYorkers can help me then, that would be great. Please send me an email if any of you have any suggestions.thankyou.

Oops sorry i used the thread as my personal message thread:
Poonte Posted on 05-May-04 11:22 AM

Jyots,

I live in Queens, as most Nepalis in NY do. As for a roommate, I have been trying to find one for another friend too, without much success. It is truly a daunting task to find housing in NY, specially for the summer when many Nepali students from around the US come here to work. But I will surely keep my eyes and ears wide open for you too!

Baru, IF ANYONE IS LOOKING FOR A ROOMMATE, OR KNOWS SOMEONE WHO IS LOOKING FOR ONE, PREFERABLY A FEMALE, PLEASE EMAIL ME...IT'S FOR A NICE, AMICABLE YOUNG FEMALE WHO NEEDS HOUSING FOR THE SUMMER.

Ani...15 yrs old ko "little child" re? Ke bhanchha? 15 barsha samma pani aunla chuSdai chha ki ke ho timro child? ;)
Manas1u Posted on 05-May-04 12:23 PM

I am from NY too. Live in Long Island... By the way Ya'll should go to "MONKEY TEMPLE" lounge in Broome Street, downtown Manhattan. It is a quite nice restaurant with nepalese decoration. U'll see ankhijhyal, diyo and drinks like piro saki. Very Cozy with tranquilizing music.

Hey sonika_ny.. how about a date in Monkey temple? KB46? ;-)
And any ladies lookin' for a roomate please reply back... one my my "female" fren is lookin' a for an apartment or a roomate. So, if u have a space please reply back. thank you.
Dr. Strangelove Posted on 06-May-04 04:34 PM

Saketinis at Monkey Temple are quite nice with spicy tidbits. Rajjev and hiw wife operate this little joint on Broome next to Holland Tunnel.

There are 2 other establishments with Nepali connection FUBAR, 50th and 1st, is operated by an old buddy, Arun Basnyat and Manny Basnyat runs, Manny's Bar, which is very close to MSG.
