ANKARA, Turkey (AP) -- Women in a southern Turkish village are boycotting sex with their husbands until the men provide running water for the village, officials and reports said Tuesday. Women in the village of Sirt, near the Mediterranean resort of Antalya, began banning their men from the bedroom a month ago, after growing tired of walking for several miles (kilometers) to carry water to their families, Milliyet and other newspapers reported. Hurriyet newspaper said most of the village women were involved in the protest but gave no numbers. "Our women are right to protest, but we're the ones who are suffering," Milliyet quoted village leader Ibrahim Sari as saying. After the boycott began, the men asked visiting local governor Mehmet Capmaz for government help to repair the village water system and even asked Capmaz to provide them with the materials so they could fix damaged pipes. Capmaz was not available for comment but an aide, who asked not to be named, confirmed the report.
