Just can't wait to see the old tigress back in court! Navratilova to Play Singles in Paris By JOHN LEICESTER, Associated Press Writer PARIS - Martina Navratilova will play at the French Open (news - web sites), her first Grand Slam singles action in a decade. But Monica Seles, who hoped to return at Roland Garros after a year's injury absence, pulled out, tournament spokesman Christophe Proust said Thursday. Navratilova, 47, "wanted to play a little again," Proust said. "She will draw a crowd, but we didn't do it for that. She represents something huge for women's tennis. She's a genuine monument." Navratilova, who asked for and was given a wild-card entry, last played singles at the French Open in 1994, losing in the first round. Her last Grand Slam singles match came later that year at Wimbledon (news - web sites), where she made the final. She won the French Open in 1982 and 1984, part of her collection of 18 major singles championships. Proust said Navratilova, still a top doubles player, showed she can compete in singles by playing at smaller events recently.

Way to go Martina. It will be great for people like me who grew up watching her. She was a great player and on her best while playing in grass court, esp. Wimbledon. It used to be so much fun watching Martina-Evert, Martina-Graff match up. What is she trying to prove playing in grand slam event at the age of 47? If I am not mistaken she has won the most slams, 18 all together (won all four major title - Wimbledon, U.S. open, Australian open and French Open). Still, I will watch her game if televised. Who is she pairing up for doubles? Mauresmo??? Hope Gabriela Sabatini will join the tennis league again…….
