Selection of word "PROGRESS" to explain the clash is disturbing to me or
I don't understand why was that word used.

Because we don't know the meaning of 'Progess', we have never seen any progress of any kind in Nepal. Not surprising!

It simply means that it is happening as we speak/write.
You haven't heard someone say, exam in progress?
