Eddie, 1) Take some basi bhaat. 2) Mix it with dried yeast (from safeway or M& S) 3) Wrap it in a peice of cloth, pack tightly in a tin container and store for 4-5 days in warm dray place to ferment. 4) Voila!! you have Bhaate Jaar. If you manage to succeed, please do invite me. Last time I tried to make jaar, it turned green, mouldy and stank worse then blue stilton. :o)

harey the term 'jaar' means something else.. its Jaand that you're talking about.. Jaar is when you steal away someone else's wife.. and the guy is called Jaar ho kyare... not sure but somewhere in this line..

sorry ED, same problem here. My dad knows how to make it really good. I think u need a rice thing that white stuff. You mix it with water and put some sugar. You gotta then store it in warm place for several days. Its complicated.

aah people. i remember that sweeet nasty smell of jaar when my grandma used to make some back in nepal. she would make jaar, and raksi. raksi is the clear one, not the white one. man, i used to drink that a lot. it was no problem if you drank a lot. she used to go back in the OLD kitchen back in the house, let no one come in and after several hrs, it would be ready. we had to drink it, during some festivals, jaar was importat part of the festival. mm..i want jaarrr with "CHOILA" emmmm... lakshmi, where you at? let me know when can i stop by and taste some of that bhatte jaar. :-D
