Dear all,
A great China expert in the US, William Hintonm, who wrote, among other books, Fanshen ( a classic) and The 100 Days War is not with us anymore. For those who don't know about Fanshen: Its one of the must read books for Chinese Studies/Chinese history students in the US and probably the most quoted book on contemporary Chinese history. Although he was very supportive of Mao and his policies and wrote a lot of books supporting Mao, he is still regarded as "the" China expert when it comes to analysing the revolution and the Cultural Revolution. He is at the level of Owen Lattimore, Fairbank and Spence when it comes to Chinese history.
